I would call ahead or show up early anywhere you are planning on taking a big group. But check out Dillons in Hollywood. http://dillonsirishpub.com/ There is plenty of space, but it fills up quick. $5-$6 beers last I knew. No cover.

I have driven Detroit to LA 3 times, and I think the Colorado route is the best. Route 66 was OK, the route through Las Cruces and West Texas was neat for the first half hour out of 20 something hours of Texas. I still want to take the out of my way Northern route to Oregon and down.

There is a new Coney on the Sunset Strip. A bunch of famous people bought the recipe from American I believe and now make Coneys over by The Whisky. Really good Coneys, Faygo, Red Wings on TV and good beer. coneydogla.com

The quality of restaurants goes down drastically on Valentine's Day. Everyone is in a hurry to get the orders out and you will probably not get the same quality you would on any other day. I would cook something nice at home. Splurge on wine and not have to worry about DUI.

Keep the truck and keep the plates for as long as you can. My plates in California were expensive in comparison. Also, can you bring some things with you? Pizzapapalis, Oberon, Hopslam, Slows BBQ and Coneys from Lafayette?

Sonny McCleans in Santa Monica is the only Boston Irish pub I know of. Bartenders I met were all from Southie, nice guys, nice pub. On Wilshire, look for the pats, celtics, red sox, bruins mural on the side of the wall.
