I'm American, so I should have a sense of humor... But I prefer British humour... so I guess that I do have a sense of humour.

"I was kidding. Don't you have a sense of humour?" is the surest sign that your attempt at humor sucked a goat.

The Ferrari is aimed at a person that wants the pinnacle of automotive technological advancement and can afford the premium that comes along with that.

Nice try, Ferrari marketing team. Unless you're talking F40 or FXX, Ferrari's are the pinnacle of automotive engineering compromise - not the pinnacle of automotive engineering. A compromise between looks, handling, speed, sound, and looks.

Are all Ferraris before the F430 unreliable crap?

The 360 marked the turning point.

How much per year does it cost to maintain F430/458?

If you have to ask...

Maybe if it has "GT" somewhere in the name. Other Porsches are definitely test-drivable.

Don't apologize or feel "stupid" for asking questions about a business practice that sounds fraudulent.

There's nothing fraudulent about it. They don't care if you want a test drive first; somebody who doesn't need a test drive will walk in tomorrow.

Besides, if you buy it and don't like it, you can turn around and sell it used for more money in many cases.

At least pick Adventureland. Into the Wild was the retarded story of a retarded kid, and I don't mean that in a good way.

I didn't mean at retail prices, I meant retail sales (i.e., to retail rather than wholesale customers).

[–]vjarnot 0 points1 point ago

You're right, I gave people who sold firearms at retail too much credit. Now I realize that they're either completely retarded, or dishonest about their margins.

I don't see the local shops I frequent moving $20k of inventory daily, so either their margins are higher, the business is a hobby, or they're really fucking stupid.

[–]vjarnot 3 points4 points ago

If you make $30 on a $1000 firearm sale, then you got into the wrong business, that's all there is to it. What do you have to move? $15,000 - $25,000 to get anywhere? That kills my thoughts of retiring young and opening a gun shop.

[–]vjarnot 6 points7 points ago

They can match prices because they are dealing with larger numbers and larger margins.

That larger margins bit is really funny, you should quit retail and get in to comedy.

Hey, if you don't like selling guns, don't sell guns.

This job would be so fucking awesome if it weren't for the goddamn customers, man.

I can find it at __________ for integer. This is rude, everyone has to keep their lights on.

Please. That's not rude; it's intelligent.

I get paid in two weeks. (Seasonal adjustment: I'm waiting for my tax return.) We hear: That means no.

Let me ask my wife. We hear: OH HELL NO.

These two I just don't get. What is it that you're pissed off about?

Most gun dealers barely know how to use a phone, much less email. Texting? Really?

Well, I guess I'll jump in the ol' horseless carriage and go to the shop that charges forty bits less and actually wants to make a sale.

We are here to sell you a gun and stuff you want to buy, not listen to you complain about Obama, the revenuers, whatever. I respect your ear by not raping it, and I'd like if if you don't rape mine.

Guess what? Retail is not the field for you.

That is basically modern society, no? TV, Radio, all forms of popular media survive largely based on advertising revenue... the only way to escape is to not contribute, to not use the system at all.

AdblockPlus

I have never seen reddit's revenue statement, but they are gaining a significant portion of income from the reddit gold service,

Wait a minute... did you just disqualify yourself from making the second statement in your first statement?

and probably an equal amount from their corporate owners Advanced Publications.

reddit either brings in money or it's an expense for its owners. Calling it "income" is a bit of a stretch - yes, it's money coming in, but it's analogous to moving money from one of your pockets to the other and calling that income.

Webs ads aren't really a lucrative business.

That's the beauty of this shit. Users create content, users post content, users moderate content. They're paying what, half-a-dozen coders or so plus [slow ass] hosting?

Brushing poly isn't hard if you've got some practice and have spent some money on a good brush. Thin the first coat around 40% - 50%, and subsequent coats around 10% - 20%. For wiping, either buy wipe-on poly, or just buy regular poly and thin it 50%. For thinning, naphtha dries faster than mineral spirits - so that's usually what I use... they're otherwise equivalent.

Rattle-can poly (rattle-can anything, actually) is the least cost-effective... but it isn't exactly going to break the bank, is it? It's usually next to impossible to get a nice finish on a large flat surface with a rattle-can, but I'm sure someone out there has lucked into it...

Spray gun is probably the most difficult method until you get the hang of it, including reading the humidity and adjusting accordingly... But when you know what you're doing, it's definitely the fastest method. For small jobs it's often not worth the effort to setup and subsequently clean up your spray stuff.

Maybe there were some problems with a previous implementation, I'm not saying there weren't. But the current system ensures that reddit won't and can't go beyond 'that place with all the funny pictures'.

Edit to add:

Thing is, that is not what karma is meant to be at all. In a perfect system, a high karma score should be indicative of a user who is posting quality content and links to reddit.

That's an awfully generous view. Reddit's customers are its advertisers; posters, commenters, and lurkers are the product being sold.

[–]vjarnot 32 points33 points ago*

Karma isn't for you. It's to help people sift through the noise and find what's really interesting.

No. That's what upvotes are for. OP didn't say that he doesn't want upvotes; OP simply indicated that he is aware that upvotes of this post will not accrue to his karma.

TL;DR: Upvotes =/= Karma

Edit to add: Now that we know what upvotes are for, we can deal with karma. Reddit karma exists to stroke the ego of content posters, because content brings eyeballs, and eyeballs bring money.

As an aside, if one were interested in improving the quality of reddit (rather than the quantity of eyeballs viewing ads), "self posts" such as this one would receive at least equal (although I think 50% more would be better) karma as regular (link) posts.

Polyurethane. I believe Home Depot carries Minwax. Wipe or brush, your choice - but if you're new to it, wiping is easier (although it'll require more coats).

Don't bother with outdoor or boat polyurethanes - you don't need the UV resistance.
