DAE find that acid has "changed" them? by nuggetblasterzin Drugs

[–]tms 6 points7 points ago

This happened to me as well, although before a psychedelic experience I was already developing doubts about the generally accepted reasoning about why we should accept advertisement in our lives. Post-psychedelics, having noticed that I too was susceptible to advertisement of all kinds (in particular I noticed a trend between perceived advertisement of poor nutrition and my own consumption of crap food) I watched a programme on TV (never bought one after moving out) with family at their house. When the advertisements came on in the middle of the documentary we were watching, I felt as if the attention hypnosis had been very abruptly, almost uncomfortably aborted and immediately diverted attention to the fellow viewers. They however continued their gaze at the screen without looking up, as if we weren't suddenly being told what products to purchase.

Beer downtown is about 800ISK last time I stepped inside a club. Expect the scene to be much later than you're used to, because everybody saves on alcohol by purchasing from the government run wine monopoly that is considerably cheaper than the clubs/bars, and drink up at home before heading downtown.

My internship gives me 20 000 ISK/month

You won't even be able to rent a room for that money. Please tell me there is a zero missing :) (If not, where are you interning? I know it happens that interns in the U.S. get paid nothing or very little, but this is laughable.) Right now you should expect to pay over 100 thousand ISK for a small (40-50m2) apartment in the Reykjavík area.

You are going to see the best weather that Iceland has to offer in those months. It won't drop to 0°C during the day although there is some chance you'll encounter night frost in may. Anything over 15° is a warm summer day in my book ;P

Einhverjum öðrum sem finnst þetta bréf kjánalegt komandi frá hæstaréttarlögmanni?

Umbjóðandi minn lýsir sig hins vegar sekan, um þann barnaskap að hafa trúað því eitt augnablik i hita leiksins að réttlætið myndi sigra og Nýja Ísland rísa.

Bréfaritari nýtir sér svo tækifærið að skjóta á helvítis kommana. Ég eginlega á ekki orð.

That is an astonishing picture, and so is the rest of your site. Could it be that the cubes we are seeing are actually hexagons flipped on the side? Wikipedia mentions that dew crystals do not necessarily develop further than the simple hexagonal shapes.

TradeHill? A more realistic value? Those of us who didn't play the (Magic the Gathering) market and don't use bitcoins to store savings are unaffected. Merchants accepting bitcoins many pin their price to the BTC-USD exchange rate anyways, so nobody really knew what a coin is worth because it's quite arbitrary (is my theory). The sole benefactors of bitcoins rise in value are those who are already sitting on bitcoins.

Þetta var að minnsta kosti staðan á pappírunum. Gögnin benda þó til þess að í raun hafi staðan verið miklu verri, en falin með baksamningum og blekkingum, í gegnum leppfélög á aflandseyjum eða í skattaparadísum. Því allt í einu, um það leyti sem bankinn féll, átti hann orðið fjörtíu prósent í sjálfum sér.

Iceland Declares Independence from International Banks by apparatus86in worldnews

[–]tms 8 points9 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Before the crash their economy relied a lot on the banks, they where responsible for a sizeable of the GDP. That Iceland was among the top 10 in living conditions in the world can also be attributed (to some degree!) to their profits. So, the picture of evil foreign bankers versus the innocent average Icelander who never saw any profit is not the whole truth. After all, banks and their employess payed taxes in Iceland.

This is very true. I don't think a single Icelander didn't gain from this banking "experiment" indirectly. However, some gained much much more than others, and it wasn't necessarily those who also lost when the bubble popped. The Gini coefficient went from 0.21 in '95 to 0.43 at the height of the bubble in '07 according to this source.
