I was 8, my sister was 6, my parents took us to a taping of Full House. As we're walking to our car after the show, John motherfucking Stamos pulls up next to us in his red sports car. He stops and asks us how we enjoyed the show. My sister says his hair is very shiny. He says thank you, tells us to have a good night and drives off. I hope he's still as cool of a dude as he was in the 90s.

That one does get annoying sometimes. "Yeah, I go everyday. I really dig spending $8 on a side of fries."

I'm fortunate to reside in Anaheim. I never have to describe the county. After I say Anaheim, most people pull out the old "Oh! Do you live near Disneyland?" (Which isn't annoying, because I do).

The HR department is one of the reasons I was excited to be hired at my current job. I interviewed with an HR rep, she tells me to email her every couple weeks. I'm thinking I got the brush off, but one day, out of the blue, she calls and asks if I can come to an interview in 2 hours because a position would be opening up. I was hired that day. Since then, I've got to know her and her hiring practices. She is a big part of why the company is successful. Everyone she's hired has been promoted or moved into a niche where they excel (Maybe not me yet, but I've only been there a month). She knows what is needed and she finds it. She's great at her job. I shudder to think of working for a company with a bad HR dept now. If this person weren't good at what she does, the office environment that is pretty upbeat could be unbearably shitty.

I've found work with a moderately successful company. We're not going to break the Forbes top 500 any time soon, but my CEO is respected in her field and from everything I've read, the business has been growing slowly over the last few years, even in a recession. I was hired a month ago. My training took 2 weeks. I still ask the occasional question, but now I'm as effective as the next newest hire who's been there for several months. I can easily see myself being in this position for my forseeable future. Isn't a couple weeks of training worth it for an employee that you can keep for a couple years?

I wonder if good training programs have been sacrificed in the shift from "Profits first, let's make our businesses better" to "Profits first and fuck everybody that's not us"? It certainly seems like I've been fortunate enough to find work with a company that maintains the former as their vision.

My question to you: Would it be worthwhile to fly in a kilt and opt out of the scanner?

Yeah, because the pictures and emails are the only thing he has on there. Probably doesn't have any family photos, or his resume, or anything else important on there. Totally a good idea to overreact and wipe his hard drive because of something he did over a year ago.

BoA customers: What bank or credit union are you changing to once they start charging for debit card usage? by deadmythin orangecounty

I DO have personal experience with OCTFCU (Now called SchoolsFirst) and I can't recommend it enough. The online banking is great. Tellerphone has saved my ass more times than I can count. And they're rolling out mobile banking apps and text service. If you have a chance, make the switch.

EDIT: Those are just the day-to-day things I was pointing out. I realized I should make a better case. It's been my experience that the big misconception with credit unions is that they are like "mini banks" that don't have all of the available services of big banks, thus my highlighting of the online banking and mobile apps. Another misconception is that there aren't a lot of ATMs. I've lived in Irvine, Garden Grove and Anaheim. I've never had an issue finding ATMs or branches. The one down side I've experienced is that I do have to make a bit of a haul to Yorba Linda to do banking on Saturdays now that I work 10-7 during the week, but that's a minor inconvenience. Both of my vehicle loans have been through the credit union and have gone off without incident and with awesome rates.

That's pretty much all I feel qualified to speak on.

To everyone that's going to call their dad now:

You need to know (not think, not feel, know) that the people you care about know how you feel. I end every phone conversation with my parents and grandparents with "I love you." They know. My grandfather passed last year and it really tore up my uncle because he felt there were many things unsaid between he and grandpa. It really hurt to see him like that, especially since it would have been so easy to just pick up the phone.

but to some of us it IS a big deal.

Unless you're prepared to speak on WHY you think it's a big deal, then you have no ground. The way discussions work isn't "I think this way just because and that's the way it is." You have reasons why you hold certain opinions. If you're not prepared to share them, then that's fine, but don't expect those opinions to be respected just because they're yours.

Opinions are like assholes.
