Revelle dorms are definitely the worst on campus, especially Argo and Blake. I am currently a first year poli major in Blake, and our dorms are small, old and lacking in amenities that other dorms have. The Fleets were just renovated last year, and they are much nicer. They have bathrooms with real doors (not stalls), working heaters, towel warmers, and generally more aesthetically pleasing design. However, one advantage to Revelle Blake/argo dorms is that the walls are cinder block, and thus pretty good at filtering sound.

GE-wise, Revelle is the worst, that's simply a fact. As a political science major the effect is compounded, as I have to take many math and science classes that I would have otherwise avoided. revelle was my 4th choice and UCSD gave it to me. go figure. Tons of people complain about the hum sequence, and given revelle's demographics I see why; most people are science majors, lots are pre-med. If you're of a more liberal-arts persuasion like myself Hum is interesting and not that hard, but everyone has their own perception.

furthermore, revelle has the least attractive girls, hands-down. Which is a good thing. You don't want to be hooking up with too many girls in your own college, running into them all the time can be inconvenient and annoying. Many of my best bros are guys I met in revelle, there's cool people there if you can find them, but go to muir if you are trying to spit game.

If you live in argo or blake you can not have any large or mid-sized parties in your room. Period. The buildings are designed such that you are trapped between the inner courtyard (usually monitored by an RSO) and the outside of the building, which faces revelle plaza. The common area is also very small, and it has a window that RA's and RSO's like to peek through to catch you. Invest in a thick black curtain for that window and they can't fuck you as easily. The fleets are much more conducive to partying, and they only have one RA per building.

With all of that being said, I have absolutely loved my first year here. I was really lucky to get a kickass suitemate (I have a single myself) who I have a lot in common with, and he's become my best friend here. Focus on meeting people, spend time with people like you, and your social circle will form on its own. I joined a fraternity myself, and it was a wonderful choice for me. Tons of new friends, unforgettable experiences and a dozens and dozens of older guys able to help you out with just about anything at school, because they've gone through the same things themselves.

EDIT: Plaza food is really bad, but it keeps you from getting fat because you don't want to eat it. The salad bar, sandwiches and pizza are consistently good, but if you want to enjoy a meal, grab some friends and walk to pines or OVT.
