I've seen a lot of confusion by many on r/Christianity as to why members of the LGBT community think that Christians hate gays. I think this video sums it up quite well, as this is pretty mainstream in American churches today. by suntfrumosein Christianity

You just hit the nail on the head. "It seems to be in the Baptist community, but not in the Episcopal, Methodist, etc..." THAT'S THE POINT....The Southern Baptist Convention is the LARGEST CHRISTIAN BODY in the US aside from the Catholic Church. If they take such a radical stance on this issue, that makes it mainstream simply because they are so huge...the Episcopal church only has 1.9 members in the US....the SBC has 16 million...I think that should make it pretty obvious why it becomes mainstream when the SBC takes a stance like this

The Southern Baptist Convention is the second largest Christian body in the US after the Catholic Church. IF the SBC takes this kind of a stance on gay issues, the fact that they are so big makes this kind of thing mainstream.

Think about it for a minute.....how many churches stood up in opposition of amendment 1 in NC? How many Pastors took to the pulpits and advocated for gay marriage?

What HAVE we seen since NC Amendment 1? Pastors advocating for child abuse, and pastors advocating for gay concentration camps.......and in each instance, it's been regular churches in regular communities where these videos are coming from....and people in both instances can be heard saying "AMEN!" in the back ground...

If you can prove to me that gay hatred is anything other than mainstream in the Christian community, I'll be glad to hear it...but I fear thats not the fact.

Did the Bible get "the easiest moral question that has ever faced humanity" wrong? This guy thinks so...and he brings up some interesting points. Thoughts? by suntfrumosein Christianity

You took issue with the most politically charged of his claims.....I'm more interested in delving into the other parts, as he did bring up some legitimate claims.

First, largely, mainstream Christianity does ignore a large portion of OT law. Many Christians eat shrimp, which is commanded against in the OT. Like it or not, that is an example of Christianity "picking and choosing" which laws to enforce.

I'd like to say that I disagree with him, but on the smaller scale, I don't....I think we as Christians need to take a long, hard look at what the Bible really says and what we're all collectively doing as believers.

I say this with love as a fellow Christian, but religious freedom does not mean you can force others to live by your own beliefs. by suntfrumosein Christianity

On some level, yes. Christian moral truth is very situation-ally relative. The previous guy who commented is most likely a white guy from north america or europe who has been raised in Christian tradition. If he was a brown guy from Syria, he'd probably be Muslim. Different truths...caused by different locations. Truth is relative to many things, situation being one of them.

"Truth" is relative....and your opinions on homosexual lust or abortion have no place in government. If you want to preach in church against homosexual lust and abortion, go right ahead. But it has no place in government. That was the point.
