Usually I send people to google but in this case I bothered myself & found at least this report by Icelandic Chamber of Commerce in PDF dated Apr 3 2012, which has relatively comprehensive yet fresh review on 94 pages (few of them mere beautiful photos of country but most have concise info). Feel free to ask for more if further search on your side has no conclusive results - I am interested in Iceland story and my friends had been asking for same info. I do not see any much problem with Ireland either, merely because it tried to cope itself. But Icelandic approach I like more - they had set precedent that "capitalising on profit, socialising on fail" is model to be punished.

Ok I must admit bias - I think we need Iceland effort across whole Europe. We need sanitization of banking and rest of finance at the expense of those who took risk, not at the expense of taxpayers just because corrupt politicians had earlier signed into law "too big to fail should be bailed out by others".

I did not suggest one should mix waste streams. yet some of your points might be not necessarily valid, e.g. one about using urine directly as fertilizer - read wikipedia article on Urine in section Agriculture to get some hints why it might be not good idea.

actually there is but for the extreme independence one has to submit himself to extremely rough lifestyle -- you can start your own in area e.g. where real pirates flourish, but then you have to fight back constantly both pirates and "royal navy". and life span most probably will get down to 30+, if you want that.
