How To Write a [Campaign] in Three Days [xpost from r/writing] by brettchamberlinin rpg

[–]rednightmare 4 points5 points ago

Actually, if you follow this advice you will be finished your campaign prep before you even start the 3 days.

Moorcock says that he works out a rough outline and lists of people, places, themes and so on ahead of time so that he never needs to stop writing. When you think about a role playing campaign the writing is really replaced by the role playing. The GM doesn't write out all of the dialogue and moment to moment details ahead of time, they make an outline of the story and lists of things.

Lyndsay (of Dragon Chow Dice Bags) plays Pathfinder with Mom; Epic Hilarity ensues by coffeeswillerin rpg

[–]rednightmare 4 points5 points ago

Dragon Chow bags are the best dice bags you can get.

Here is why:

  • They are reversible. Two designs for the price of one!

  • They fit a lot of dice.

  • They are sewn to sit flat on the table, the bag won't fall over.

  • They have a drawstring that will actually seal the bag. Your dice won't escape.

  • She will make a custom bag for you with any fabric you can find.

  • There is a ton of variety to choose from.

D&D Encounters (and beyond): the Deep Gnome by fknbastardin rpg

[–]rednightmare 0 points1 point ago

Deep gnomes are wiry and lean with a body as hard as a slab of rock. Males are completely bald and beardless, while the females sport hair. Ranging from 3' to 3'6" (107 cm) in height and weighing between 40 and 45 lbs (20.4 kg), the deep gnomes are small enough to give them a size advantage when battling larger opponents.[2] Deep gnome complexions are sometimes described as "gnarled" and, like drow and duergar, are commonly dark in hue, with most deep gnomes demonstrating brown or gray skin, with dark gray eyes, as well as gray hair if female.[3] Deep gnomes do not live quite as long as their kin, with a life expectancy just under two centuries. Due to this and a number of cultural affectations, deep gnome children are considered adults at roughly twenty years of age.

Dice-cheating? by DTorakhanin rpg

Get a dice tower or bowl. It'll help curb cheating, be a delightfully geeky accessory and tidy up your game table.

I wanna make an app. (not sure if this is right place) by Ramu127in rpg

[–]rednightmare 1 point2 points ago

So you want to program? Swing by one of the programming subreddits and check their sidebar for the "learn to program" links. This definitely isn't the right place for that.

This is a much bigger project than I think you realize. I suggest you start here or maybe here if all you want to do is make a text adventure.

You could, of course, just play by email instead of going through all of the above trouble.

Anyone else find that 'epic' is a really overdone theme in video games? by dakhoin Games

[–]rednightmare 1 point2 points ago

Mechanically it isn't a great game, but that's not what we're talking about. Asura's Wrath begins at "epic" and it just keeps topping itself again and again and again. It never becomes bland in that sense.

Are there subreddits for finding groups for DnD and other RPGs aside from r/lfg? by imightbespartacusin rpg

[–]rednightmare 0 points1 point ago

Not really. You could try /r/findagame.

Try visiting some of the dedicated virtual tabletop websites and visiting their recruitment boards. Look into the G+ play network and ConstantCon. Visit some of the player networks (like Infrno) or look on the official forums of the games you want to play.

Finding a group online takes effort, if you are just passively looking for one to show up then you will probably never find one.

If you remove all the epic from a game, it's just bland.

Can you help me give better names to all these Skills? by FableForgein shadowside

Consider colour coding the entries based on organization of origin. That way someone can tell at a glance whether they will need to seek out a special tutor or not.

How do I write dialog for rpg's? by Binarysoul42in rpg

[–]rednightmare 2 points3 points ago

You can't right dialogue in advance for RPGs, short of a few canned responses. The best way to handle this is to write down the core information you need to pass along with a character, the ideas that they need to communicate. Then you have an idea of what you need to hit on in any role play dialogue.

What do you mean by handbook? Do you mean something like Dungeons & Dragons for Dummies? Or by handbook to do you just mean core rules book?

Fellow DMs! How do you design a good boss fight? by winterknightin rpg

[–]rednightmare 4 points5 points ago

When I do a boss fight I like to build a puzzle around it. Think Zelda and you'll have the right idea. To be honest, I rarely do proper boss fights.

Need an Encounters level adventure by blackdragon8577in rpg

[–]rednightmare 0 points1 point ago

You should ask the FLGS if you can use one of the Dungeon Anthology books while you wait for the package. They might also have the previous Encounters kit.

If anyone actually has the current Encounters adventure and has the capability of sharing it that would be awesome. Assuming that it is legal of course.

It's not.

Random Hermit Generator by skeetoin rpg

[–]rednightmare 15 points16 points ago

I think I would use this without the quirks column, they're a little too silly for me.

I really like how #10 in the converses with table implies that the other 9 results are "real" and likely communicate with the hermit.
