Today was testing day, a few new skills. Looking for form critique. by Laggsin bodyweightfitness

Get your hands as close as possible, maintain your hollow (straight lower back) and at the same time try to push your hips to the wall (this fixes the pike), straighten legs. Getting your forehead to the wall helps keep your neck/upperback straight. Force your shoulders open (push) as far as possible. It won't be comfortable starting out...

Yeah, the piking tends to happen when learning to keep hollow upsidedown - it's not that bad in your case though. You should feel your glutes and inner thighs working when straightening out. Again - the face too wall is very useful for experimenting/getting used to all this alignment stuff, and also pushing your shoulders open. Also - the increased flexibility is exactly what will make it more comfortable to get into and hold that position. It's good to be nitpicky on the handstand - it'll pay off later if you decide to go on to more advanced handbalancing. Strive for this.

Backlever - it's good, just face your hands and elbows down (this puts a lot of pressure on the elbows so maybe be a bit cautious and ease into it over a few sessions) and get your feet together.

Muscleup - looks great to me! Next step - work towards building strength upto the point where you don't have to 'roll' into it.

Handstand - you look pretty hollow to me, but you're piking a tiny bit at the hips. Your shoulders are still very closed - try wall extensions to improve your shoulder flexibility. Try keep your ears between your shoulders when doing handstands - you should be using your traps as opposed to your chest. The face-to-wall drill will help a lot.

What is something that occurs in movies that you wish happened in real life? by SH4DYL4DYin AskReddit

Air bending could be quite formidable: you could suck the air out of your enemies' lungs/trap them in a vacuum.

Leg Workout Critique by bkukorin bodyweightfitness

[–]red1392 2 points3 points ago

Nothing will build strength and power in your legs like heavy squats and cleans. GHRs are awesome, keep those as assistance but focus on squatting and cleaning if you have access to barbell and weights (which I assume you do because you're deadlifting).

Edit: For boydyweight only - consider sprinting and box jumps along with what you have.

Makes it more hip/lower body dominant - OP is looking for leg work.

Bodyweight bulking - any success stories? by Takoskowain bodyweightfitness

Pretty sure that's just a warmup to get the blood pumping before he jumps on the rings...

The size of his arms and back probably has more to do with the insane ring work he's been doing his whole life as opposed to some light dumbbell curls and skullcrushers.

Keep your eye on the ball.. by dubbledutchin funny

[–]red1392 8 points9 points ago

Watch the full video... cat gets it right 2/3 times and the time he got it wrong, the owner did a quick switch and the cat followed the middle shell instead of the ball. It's cute but lots of cats (and dogs) would be able to do this with a bit of training. Both animals understand concepts of object permanence.

Best three fights for casual MMA fans? by iBukkakein MMA

[–]red1392 0 points1 point ago

Domination (Grappling): Chael Sonnen vs Anderson Silva

I'd go with Sonnen vs Stann or Maia vs Sonnen for that.

Brawls:

Manhoef vs Cyborg

Come From Behind:

THIS should be Sonnen vs Silva.

Jones vs. Hendo confirmed at UFC 151 by dp517in MMA

[–]red1392 9 points10 points ago

Jones said he walks around 230 and cuts from about 223. JDS fights at 240. If Jones grew some legs it wouldn't be hard at all for him to catch up to JDS's size.

What do you guys think of adjustable kettlebells like these? Anyone have experiences (good or bad) with them? They're not prone to falling apart or anything are they? by red1392in kettlebell

[–]red1392[S] 0 points1 point ago

I'd expect it to be a bit off, but as long as it didn't completely get in the way of doing two handed work with it and a normal bell, I wouldn't mind it much I suppose.

Considering the 32kg bell from that website costs $135, doesn't sound like too bad a deal. Thinking of getting myself one. Also, how similar do they feel to regular kettlebells? Would there be any problems if I did double kettlebell work with a regular kettlebell in one hand and an adjustable one like this in the other?

Edit: This one's a slightly more expensive option, but with plenty of good reviews.

Circus School - an incredible insight into the lives of young Chinese acrobats by red1392in bodyweightfitness

If you don't have time to watch the whole thing, at the very least take note of the little 8 year old boy with the chubby cheeks at 5:02-7:39, 11:33-12:48 and 33:41 till the end (he's the main subject of the documentary).

This is Cai Yong today.

Junior Dos Santos on Frank Mir: “He’s not a man. He gives up. Against Shane Carwin, he pretended he was hurt. He’s full of it.” by BreakfastGuruin MMA

[–]red1392 1 point2 points ago

It seems incredibly uncharacteristic of a guy like JDS to say something like that, especially considering Mir was legitimately KTFO in that fight. He had mentioned previously that didn't see this as a grudge match, that he thought Mir was a good opponent etc. As someone else has mentioned, I'm pretty sure there was some sort of instruction for the group to talk smack and that's the best Junior could come up with...

It's people being pussies and feeling like they need special treatment and special labels and special pills.

I kind of doubt anyone would want to be in a situation where they have to pay for "special treatment and special labels and special pills" just to remain a functioning member of society, but that's just me.

Is it so hard for you to accept that people born not so perfect as you aren't just pretending for the sake of attention? This is a massive stain on Nicks career and his reputation, and I'm sure he knows it. I have a hard time coming to the conclusion that he purposely put everyone, including himself, through all of this just for a little attention.

Oh really? An hour before? All reports indicates he made no appearance at any time today.

Lots of twitter reports say he walked out around an hour before the match. People thought he was stepping out for air but he never came back.

It's pussification of America bullshit.

Eh, what? Say that you want buddy but 'butterflies' and 'jitters' and social anxiety disorder aren't the same thing.

Then he shouldn't have agreed to the fight.

He probably feels the same way. Hindsight is 20/20. He bit off more than he could chew.

I'm just trying to empathize here.

I can't imagine the guy went out of his way to deliver a personal fuck you to all his fans, his opponent as well as the charity organization, even though that's what it ended up being. Was this an elaborate scheme of his to piss thousands of people off for fun? It's not like he forgot to show up, period - that would suggest he was plain careless and/or apathetic. He showed up and suddenly left an hour before he was meant to go perform - which suggests to me something came over him last minute.

The guy needs a sports psychologist or something.

[–]red1392 6 points7 points ago*

Anxiety disorders aren't pseudo science so don't know what you're on about there. Maybe Diaz left precisely because he didn't want to be submitted in front of thousands of people by an opponent leagues above him. Everyone has been talking about how outmatched Diaz was ever since the fight was announced.

That said it's still an incredibly sad and disrespectful move by Diaz to pull out at the last second without at least letting someone know. Especially considering how his purse was meant to go to charity. He's lost a lot of fans today, no doubt.

Started the year at 249, and set my goal at 215 by prom night. It's now prom night. I'm at 203. Fuck yes. by primordial_soupin Fitness

Don't sweat it. It may well have been for the better. Leading up to my high school prom I figured I'd be better off not going. I did. I was right - it was the worst night of my life and left me depressed for ages.

You look awesome by the way. Head over to /r/malefashionadvice and start dressing awesome too!

Oh and your dog is adorable.
