I thought jackalopes were real until I was about 15. My dad and I were at a restaurant that had a jackalope head mounted and I asked him just when they became extinct because you never hear about them anymore. Thanks for the long troll, Coulier.

I didn't realize there was a correlation between the two but you, sir, hit the nail on the head. I'm wheat intolerant but rather than the Graves connection, it's a strong family predisposition (my sister, two brothers and three cousins all have actual celiac disease). We're also off-the-boat Italian which makes it a little bit sadder, hahah; we bread everything!

I haven't undergone the knife or the radiation yet, so I still have a functioning thyroid (albeit over functioning) but I'm on metroprolol to control it. I was diagnosed during my first pregnancy three years ago and have put on 100 lbs since (yes, one-hundred-pounds). Graves disease is like a magical but malignant gift; I was always hungry but would eat 6000 calories a day and lose weight. sigh

I'm glad to hear you've had positive experiences and weight loss with the keto and thyroid issues, though! I'm so glad I posted this, it's really reaffirming my desire to start this diet, ASAP!

How high are we talking here? (-;

Your comment brings up a question I'd been wondering about for a while now; if you lose the weight, go low carb and get back to healthy, unmedicated BS levels ("curing" Type II), can you go back to having the occasional milkshake without your blood sugar going crazy? Plan on asking my endocrinologist at my next appointment.

I am not a well controlled diabetic, which maybe should've been how I phrased my question. My A1C went from 6.4 to 7.0, at last testing. I deal with crazy dawn phenomena (my fasting is rarely less than 160 in the morning) and I'm desperately worried about insulin being the next step at this point. I'd much rather do a high fat/low carb diet than resort to daily injections. With my last pregnancy, which was the sort of final hurrah for normal BS levels for me, I ended up with gestational diabetes so bad, I was on CRAZY doses of insulin; everything in my life revolved around my diabetes at that point and I couldn't imagine life like that.

With your numbers being so tight, are you still on medication or are you able to do diet/excersize alone?

That is totally awesome to read! I looked through your submitted posts and read that you had such a crazy A1C drop after just a 25 lb loss?! That's nuts! I'm afraid the next step for me would be insulin injections, as my BS is no longer responding as well to just the metformin these days and I'd much rather try a radical diet change than having to inject myself!

I've been talking with my husband tonight about starting the keto diet together this week (he's a healthy guy but still plush sized - 6'2" and 235lbs). My in-laws are taking my kids overnight this week so we are going to scour the Internet for recipes and do a major grocery trip/cabinet overhaul while we are child-free.

Really, though, thanks for commenting - this was exactly the sort of response I was hoping to get!

I take a pretty large dose of metformin/glucophage. I have an appointment coming up soon and I'd planned on discussing insulin injections/switching meds with my endo; my blood sugar has been creeping for a while.

A lot of my weight issues revolve around my thyroid; I'm hyper (stemming from Graves disease) and every endocrinologist in the world would rather their patient be hypo than hyper so they keep me on the hypothyroid spectrum to prevent hyperthyroid complications (which put me in the ICU last year). It's a pretty crappy problem to deal with, on top of the diabetes.

After reading the reviews, I went ahead and ordered the book. I'm excited to get it and get a real grip on living on a low carb diet with diabetes.

My endocrinologist told me, in so many words, that if I were to lose weight, I could most likely reverse my Type II. That was in October 2010, when I was officially diagnosed. Since then, I've gained 30 lbs and my A1C went up. Basically, my shit is all fucked up.

My big wake up call just happened the other day. A friend of mine who is only a few years older than me (around 30 years old) and has similar health/weight issues to mine (we are both Type IIs, both 300lbs+) just had a fucking HEART ATTACK. Not that it makes my life any more valuable but I'm the mother to three small children (three under 3) and I can no longer justify my love of potatoes as a reason to potentially rob my kids of having a mommy.

Do you know what your A1C was beforehand? At my diagnosis, it was 6.4 and six months later, it'd gone to 7! It was almost like the medications were hindering instead of helping. )-;

I'm so glad to hear that! You can't argue with good blood sugar numbers and weight loss! I feel like crap ALL THE TIME (I also have some shitty thyroid issues going on) and at this point, I'd gladly ditch the grain to get some good BS levels and feel like my old self again.

In the beginning, did you notice any funky changes in your BS or scary ketone levels?

[–]plagiaristic_passion 3 points4 points ago

It's a definite hit or a miss for me but I'm glad you're so excited! I have heard from so many guys that it creates a completely different, more enjoyable sensation.

I am more apt to swallow if it's been an awesome fuckfest and I feel I "owe him one". I've had too many shit experiences to make it an every-blowjob-occurrence. Once I actually vomited in the process but sucked it back down and he didn't even notice. Quite a few times, with various different men, I've vomited afterwards (like hours) which had me wondering if it might actually be a semen allergy.

I don't think it helps that 80% of the men I've dated have been smokers who live on energy drinks and fast food.

My 4 Year old Son has never eaten food, do you know anyone with a similar story? by Dunedain503in AskReddit

I was wondering this, too. By four years old, he should be able to put into words what it is that keeps him from eating.

How did you explain death? My girls are very bright so I feel like I'm doing them a huge disservice by not having the right words to really explain to them what has happened.

You really should think about it. Untreated hyperthyroid can and eventually will kill you (I ended up in the ICU, where the residents were telling me to start calling my immediate family).

I've accidentally dropped/chucked my phone on concrete driveways three times with this case, in addition to having a small child actively, angrily throw my phone on concrete. Dropped on tile a dozen times, always bounces. The Bumpers cost more, really, than they should for the materials required (ie. like every other Apple product) but this is the third case I've had since I got my iPhone a few months ago and I love it. Apple stores carry them as well, so you don't have to order online and wait/pay shipping.

I've bought a few keys (three, I think) and my first time around, I got an unusual Lava Pyro Beanie. People are willing to trade their firstborns to me half of the time.

I really think, for future shock value, you should summarize that story as, "I went down on a girl in a hospital bed who had flesh eating bacteria".

Also, she was there for three days and was in the ER for her last night? Fishy.

As a mother, and the daughter of a man who physically and emotionally abused me and virtually all but ruined my childhood, I have to wonder why more of you with equal sob stories don't place some blame with your mothers. I'm sure not all of these asshole dads were assholes out of the womb or when they began relationships with your moms but I could never imagine letting my husband abuse one of my three children for any length of time. That being said, I had children with a man who I knew would make an excellent father.

I personally blame my mom for allowing the abuse to go on, for not packing up and taking off. She just dumped me with relatives constantly. I have anger towards my dad, sure, but just as much for the woman who allowed it to happen.
