For me, I just kind of grew out of metal.. I still love to shred it up on my guitar though every now and then, and will thrash the shit out of my remaining metal collection on a long drive. But that Five Finger Death Punch song is pretty badass. As you say though, possibly a bit hard to learn/teach in a short time.

The problem with songs like that is they could be boring without the vocals.. and he really doesn't want to sing haha

Midnight is one of my favourite things to play! But I don't think I'd be able to teach it in only 2 lessons.

He loves bands like the ones you suggested, and Enter Sandman was one of the first songs we did. I'm not so well versed in metal these days, but was thinking something a bit shorter, possibly instrumental?

Ginger and cinnamon cupcakes with Hennessy cognac and tangelo icings by pantharayin Baking

[–]pantharay[S] 0 points1 point ago

This began as an experiment in ginger cupcakes and expanded after finding some cognac and tangelos. The cognac complimented the spices of the cupcakes and the sweetness of the tangelo juice really well. Recipe: 1/2 cup/100g sugar beaten with 100g butter/margarine, beat in 2 eggs. Fold in 1/2 cup/100g flour, 5ml/1 tsp baking powder, pinch of salt, dash of vanilla. I added roughly a tablespoon and a half ground ginger and half a tbsp cinnamon. I found this was a really good ratio, as I wanted the predominant flavour to be ginger.

Icing: Butter icing.. cream approx 100g butter, mix with icing sugar til very thick. Split in two, add about 2 tbsp cognac to one, and 1tbsp to the other. This one gets half the juice of 1 good size tangelo. I would consider not using cognac in the tangelo one, but it was pretty damn tasty regardless. Some orange food colouring was used as well to make the flavours look different.

It's a bit late because I am only allowed to bake every so often or I'll eat everything :( Here is the recipe: 1/2 cup/100g sugar beaten with 100g butter/margarine, beat in 2 eggs. Here is another. Cross posted from 52weeksofcooking because it belongs here in baking too! Used this recipe with just butter for the crust and it turned out amazingly.

Roll some duct tape around the bottle and a couple elastic bands for extra preparedness.

Week 7: For the love of perogy (album in comments) by Vsererin 52weeksofcooking

[–]pantharay 1 point2 points ago

I am OP's girlfriend, and so it is my duty to explain that perogies are "love inspired" for us because they were the first thing Vserer ever cooked for me after a long, hungry and tiring shift at work. I have never seen them here in New Zealand either but my god are they good.

My therapist suggested I "creatively express my true self". So I made a cake. [xpost from pics] by pantharayin Baking

Even better than I expected. I put smarties in the cake batter, and used a really sticky pomegranate syrup under the marzipan/royal icing :)

It was at the end of depression/self esteem therapy. I had a pretty awesome therapist.
