Black African Wehrmacht Nazi Soldier, 1940s, WWII [288 x 430] by Thepogschampionin HistoryPorn

[–]nongoloza -7 points-6 points ago

Not just land army. Wehrmacht would include all armed forces, land army, navy, and air force. I don't think it's wrong to suggest that this was a nazi soldier, who fought for Nazi Germany. The Wehrmacht were terminated in 1945 for a reason...

Mobile banking in Africa [OS][595x588] by ThisExactSituationin MapPorn

Still, I find it hard to believe that about 1 in every 2 adults in Sudan (or Algeria, which has fairly developed infrastructures) is tech-savvy enough or has access to the electronic services to do so... Unless those polled meant use of mobile phones to arrange for money transfers (say, calling the uncle in the village to ask him to pass on money to another relative, or something less absurd along these lines).

I don't buy into this, or maybe I don't get it. So, in Namibia, Botswana and South Africa -- three of the richest nations in Africa per capita -- less than 20% of adults have used their (smart?)phones to pay bills. But in war-torn, state-less, poverty-stricken countries like Sudan or Somalia that figure increases to 40% or more. I mean, that's higher than in most of the industrialized North! And from the countries I know these figures simply don't match up to reality.

Is anyone else enjoying all these recent "self" photographs that show our families in a historical perspective? I will add one. My parents, trying to get away after their wedding vows, 1954 [1600x1200]. by crashinin HistoryPorn

I found this story about Cristiano Ronaldo on a fifa forum - Definitely worth a read by WaldoDudein soccer

[–]nongoloza 1 point2 points ago

This is absolutely right. There are 10 results for Albert Fantrau in pages written in Portuguese (5 for .pt domains). You'd expect someone in Portugal would've picked up on this if it were true. And the guy's name really gives it away...

Willing to translate to Portuguese (European). by rockinoutloudin i18n

David Seaman, goalkeeper (England & Arsenal). Whenever he dribbled the ball, I think some commentators got off from saying "Seaman dribbling out of the box"...Classic.

Isto.

Of 16 teams left in Europe: 5 Spanish, 3 German, 2 Portuguese, 1 Cypriot, Italian, Dutch, Ukrainian, French, English by BenderTimein soccer

[–]nongoloza 16 points17 points ago

Actually, Germanic (like Hellenic, Italic/Romance, or Celtic languages) are all sub-divisions of Indo-European languages. Only Euskera (At. Bilbao) would be out of that equation. And don't mind me asking, but shouldn't it be 7 Iberian teams (5 Spanish+2 Portuguese) or am I missing something?
