Motivations for being "bad" in video games by nmcvickein truegaming

[–]movin_target 1 point2 points ago

I like games where when given a choice to do good or bad, that the bad side makes it easier for you and makes things more interesting. inFamous 2 has this. and I'm sure some other karma based games do too.

Gamers are/will be drawing the line already. It's more of the uninformed consumer that will blindly purchase games for $80 and or purchase the micro-transactions.

Fat Cats vs. Developers - Publishers/investors are making gaming a high-class hobby for no reason by second_worldin gaming

[–]movin_target 1 point2 points ago

I agree completely, game prices need to come down more, even in other places in the world. Gaming is just too damn expensive, but thankfully there are sales and such.

Though, we don't have much of a voice against publishers, while we bitch and moan, they laugh their way to the bank.

What happened to the stealth action genre? by movin_targetin truegaming

Doesn't mean that they are stealth games. Rainbow Six, H.A.W.X, Ghost Recon are different genres.

Maybe that could lead into another question itself. What could game developers do to make a stealth game more about cunning and quick thinking than pattern memorization? I mean, with current gen tech, we haven't really seen a full on stealth game, we haven't seen the AI limits being pushed, and that's excluding PC, which can go above and beyond in graphics and AI.

I've seen Deus Ex mentioned so much in this thread, I will certainly check it out.

I liked your analysis and it really gave me hope for what can come for the future. If what you're stating with the entry barrier being cheaper and more people trying new things, it'll really only be up to a developer to develop a game of this nature without having to appeal to a wider audience.

Should be interesting to see how the future turns out.

If you're going off difficulty, than why have the Souls games done so well? They require thought, patience, planning and so on, just like stealth-action games.

I'm sure there are good enough amount of people who would want a great stealth game if it were marketed as such, just like how Dark Souls was marketed as a difficult game.

I did not purchase because I do not own a platform on which I can play it. My only viable gaming console is my PS3.

Let's discuss the Sly Cooper series: what worked well, what did not work well, and everything in between. by Russano_Greenstripein truegaming

[–]movin_target 1 point2 points ago

I love the Sly Cooper Series..well, I love 1 and 2. 3 rubs me the wrong way.

With Sly 1, you have a quick and nimble character you control at all times, with the exception of a few missions. Sly controls really well, and it was fun playing as him. All the missions I found were fun, except for the driving missions, and I loved the lucky charm health system, it gave you incentive to avoid being detected. Sly 1 is my favorite of the series.

In Sly 2, whenever I played as Murray or Bently I kept asking myself "Okay, can I play as Sly again soon?" While they weren't completely boring to play as, I didn't have as much fun with their mission's as I did with Sly's. It has a nice storyline, and some really cool missions, but it was the inclusion of playing as other characters that threw me off a bit. I love the game, but not as much as I love 1.

I didn't even finish Sly 3 because I found it incredibly boring. I'm not sure I found it boring because of playing 1 and 2 straight through, then tried to continue with 3, or if it was just a boring game. My one major issue with the game is the one I had with 2, I don't want to play as all these extra characters. I believe I only made it up to the fourth episode before quitting, but I simply did not care AT ALL for the Koala and the Mouse girl. It seemed like Sucker Punch was trying to add too much variety with adding more characters and different gameplay elements, when I really just wanted to play as Sly. Also, this game made me HATE playing as Bently because of those dualstick-shooter sections, I simply grew tired of them.

Those are my two, poorly organized, cents.
