Going through TNG start-to-finish and thought 'Ensign Gomez' ("Q Who", "Samaritan Snare") looked really familiar. Then I realized why [NSFW] by George_Glassin startrek

On that note, I found Troi infinitely more attractive when she finally ditched the dresses and earned a uniform.

Every other sitcom forever. They had the good sense to film I Love Lucy in long, theatrical takes in front of a live audience, so the laughter you hear is essentially genuine. But not every performer is as badass as Lucille Ball to basically nail the first take every time. So in basically every sitcom since, they have to use canned laughter, even when it's filmed in front of a studio audience--a joke just isn't funny when you've seen it five times in a row. Let alone shows like MASH, where they filmed on location. (Words cannot describe my gratitude when I found that the DVDs gave me the option to turn the laugh track off.) Our generation has largely been spoiled by Scrubs, which eschewed a multiple camera set up and laugh track.

So at the end, Han just shoots Boba dead, strings Chewie up in a noose, shoots him down at the last second, and gets away with the gold?

Movie Studios Are Forcing Hollywood to Abandon 35mm Film. But the Consequences of Going Digital Are Vast, and Troubling by marusein TrueReddit

In situations like this, try hitting "print;" it should show as a single page. Also, I think someone posted a good TL;DR near the bottom of the thread.

I am an adult male who is 5'1". What do you really think about me? by lonemarauderin tall

I'm pretty tired of being judged by my most blindingly obvious physical trait, so I would try not to let such a thing factor into my assessment. So, Star Wars or Star Trek?

"forevershort" in the height Askreddit thread seems to think we are all cretins. Does he have a point? by Cptn_Siskoin tall

[–]maruse 2 points3 points ago

No, he doesn't. I have to put up with every slack-jawed idiot commenting on my height five seconds into meeting them. I have to deal with the beginnings of chronic joint pain at the age of 28. And every couple of weeks I have to deal with somebody like him getting drunk in a bar and deciding that he's going to make himself look cool by either being a dick or actually trying to fight the tallest guy he can find.

There are indeed significant advantages to this height. But I enjoy spending five minutes out of my day commiserating with people who share some of my experiences too. If anyone doesn't like it, they are under no obligation to stay in this community.

Does anyone know what happens to Naboo during Palpatine's reign? Or in the post-Empire era?

To the prequel haters: does the epic final battle between Obi-Wan and Anakin (IMO one of the best lightsaber battles ever) in Episode 3 not make up for Episode 1? by Meathead32in StarWars

[–]maruse 3 points4 points ago*

The opening, certainly; there is a lot of raw energy in the initial exchange of blows. Unfortunately that emotion is quickly sapped as the sequence transitions to long shots that are fine for visceral awe, but only detract from the personal, emotional content. The splicing of the Yoda-Emperor fight only further dampens the impact of the scene.
