Only 26% of Law Schools Report Percentage of Grads with Legal Jobs, Study Finds - News - ABA Journal by ltcolonelnemoin RAMSPEC

[–]ltcolonelnemo[S] 0 points1 point ago

"Only 1 percent of the 197 law schools—in other words, two schools—disclosed how many grads were in full-time, long-term legal jobs. They are Michigan State University College of Law and Southwestern Law School."

Inversion table? Waste of money or actually works? by gapsinthewebin Health

[–]ltcolonelnemo 2 points3 points ago

I just bought an inversion table on a hunch that it would help me with my lower back and hip pain. I started experiencing the pain a year ago, from improperly squatting with weight that was too heavy for me to handle. I've done hip mobility exercises, lightened my squats, improved my form, bought a new bed, been to the chiropractor, iced my back, gone into the cold lake to take some pressure off, stretched my hamstrings, switched to a standing desk so as to avoid sitting, etc.

After I bought the table, a Teeter 550 or 650 (I got it from a used sporting goods store, but the store told me the owner had just purchased it; $175 marked down from $300-400. This model seems pretty well-made.), and used it, I noticed an IMMEDIATE and MARKED reduction in my residual back-pain. I basically no longer notice it, and when I do, its about 5% of what it used to be.

I did it initially for 3 reps of 30 secs, to about an 80-90% inversion. Then I increased the reps to 1 minute. The most I've done is 1 minute 30 seconds to 2 minutes.

The only downside is the foot and ankle uncomfortability that come from hanging upside down. But the relief of chronic back pain makes it worth-while.

I do it when I get up in the morning, and before I go to bed. It has improved my sleep quality and my energy levels.

I also was diagnosed with scholiosis years ago. And I have flat feet and where orthodics. I'm also in front a of a computer a lot.

I say try it. If it doesn't work out, you can always sell it to someone else to mitigate your loss. That was my rationale.

Hope this helps.

No Mention of Fakir Musafar or any Body Modification Sourcebooks in This Subreddit? by ltcolonelnemoin bodymods

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll take a look at those.

No Mention of Fakir Musafar or any Body Modification Sourcebooks in This Subreddit? by ltcolonelnemoin bodymods

[–]ltcolonelnemo[S] 0 points1 point ago

Thanks for replying.

The thing that fascinated me was that Fakir talked about using various techniques to achieve different altered states: out-of-body experiences, states of physical transformation, states that allow the body to heal wounds, or avoid infections.

I'm not so much interested in body modification per se, as I am reaching the altered states it may offer a unique gateway to. I do have some tattoos, but I never found the altered state I achieved while getting tattooed to be profound enough to warrant getting tattooed just to achieve the state, although I probably will be tattooed again before too long.

Homophobia in the gym by Kingsmerein Fitness

[–]ltcolonelnemo 3 points4 points ago

It doesn't sound like he lives in a community that protects gay people that well. I've never seen or heard of anything like this happening at any gym I've ever been to. If he gets into a fight, even if he wins, or "stands up for himself," there could be reprisals outside the gym, people could find out where he lives and really mess with his life. Law enforcement may turn out to be completely worthless.

Its better to practice the art of fighting without fighting, and I'm someone who has been in more than his share of fights. I'm lucky to be alive and relatively unscathed.

Also, if he hurts or kills someone, the "system" will hypocritically demonize him and lock him up, or otherwise make his life a living hell.

Parents Furious Over Apparent Use Of 'Scream Rooms' Inside Middletown, Conn. Elementary School « CBS New York by ltcolonelnemoin RAMSPEC

Yeah, mental torture would make me furious too, because that's what locking someone in dark, soundproof closet is: torture. Especially a child.

Websites pay users who meet New Year's resolutions by ltcolonelnemoin RAMSPEC

[–]ltcolonelnemo[S] 0 points1 point ago

If this actually worked for everyone, these businesses would go bankrupt constanting paying everyone and fining nobody. It is likely that the businesses have calculated that people will sign up, maybe succeed for awhile, then backslide, incur a bunch fines, and make the company money.

Degree Inflation? An Anecdotal Rebuttal by ltcolonelnemoin RAMSPEC

[–]ltcolonelnemo[S] 0 points1 point ago

During the Great Depression, my grandfather dropped out of middle school to work as a newspaper boy to raise money to help feed the family. His family was relatively prosperous; they owned animals, and had a business. But it made more sense at the time to work than to go to school. Anyway, when he was 13 years old, he had men with college degress working under him. If these degrees were really in such short supply, it would have been easy for these men to get jobs, since they would have displaced all the people without degrees who had jobs.

Many employers won't hire someone with an advanced education because they don't want that person to make trouble for them. They want someone with less "qualifications" than them that they can push around.

When Truth Survives Free Speech - NYTimes.com by ltcolonelnemoin RAMSPEC

Trial Balloon: "Something must be done to censor the slanderous bloggers."

In all seriousness though, this woman clearly comes across as mentally ill, and her websites do not appear credible at all. I highly doubt that this lawyer lost a bunch of business because of it. Anyone could see that she's a crank. Plus, she wants to shake people down in exchange for not writing bad things about them.

I tried to make it as inexpensive as possible, using only parts that had high average reviews.

Dismal Tale of Arrest for Tiniest of [Non-]Crimes - NYTimes.com by ltcolonelnemoin RAMSPEC

[–]ltcolonelnemo[S] 0 points1 point ago

Apparently, the person that wrote the head-line, probably an editor, had to tone down the content of the article. The police arrested the woman because she did not have an ID when they asked her for one. This is not a crime, or so it claims in the article. So, the headline should read: "Police Will Arrest You For No Reason Other Than Pure Spite," but that would have painted in the NYPD in too negative a light, as if arresting people for nonsense bullshit that has been criminalized isn't already bad enough.

Forgot to edit the title....

For anyone who has read about the effects of architecture and locale on the psyche, this should be disturbing.

Homeland Security plans to HQ itself if in a creepy castle structure . . . that used to be an insane asylum!

I wonder how it will effect them.

Somebody somewhere knows what they are doing, for better or for worse.
