Inversion table? Waste of money or actually works? by gapsinthewebin Health

[–]ltcolonelnemo 2 points3 points ago

I just bought an inversion table on a hunch that it would help me with my lower back and hip pain. I started experiencing the pain a year ago, from improperly squatting with weight that was too heavy for me to handle. I've done hip mobility exercises, lightened my squats, improved my form, bought a new bed, been to the chiropractor, iced my back, gone into the cold lake to take some pressure off, stretched my hamstrings, switched to a standing desk so as to avoid sitting, etc.

After I bought the table, a Teeter 550 or 650 (I got it from a used sporting goods store, but the store told me the owner had just purchased it; $175 marked down from $300-400. This model seems pretty well-made.), and used it, I noticed an IMMEDIATE and MARKED reduction in my residual back-pain. I basically no longer notice it, and when I do, its about 5% of what it used to be.

I did it initially for 3 reps of 30 secs, to about an 80-90% inversion. Then I increased the reps to 1 minute. The most I've done is 1 minute 30 seconds to 2 minutes.

The only downside is the foot and ankle uncomfortability that come from hanging upside down. But the relief of chronic back pain makes it worth-while.

I do it when I get up in the morning, and before I go to bed. It has improved my sleep quality and my energy levels.

I also was diagnosed with scholiosis years ago. And I have flat feet and where orthodics. I'm also in front a of a computer a lot.

I say try it. If it doesn't work out, you can always sell it to someone else to mitigate your loss. That was my rationale.

Hope this helps.
