Welp, Beaumont made the front page again...again complaining about our fire hydrant by Hippocampusin setx

[–]lot183 1 point2 points ago

Look, Beaumont isn't the best place. It can get boring. I'm a big city guy, and I'd love to live in Houston or Austin. Thats not viable for me right now. If you are here and hate it, I assume you aren't in a position to move either. So you got to make the best of it. There ARE things to do here. For me, I got big into the music scene. I love live music and started to realize that there's a lot around here. Maybe not many big bands, but enough stuff. And I decided to get involved, I volunteered for a local music festival and now I'm booking it, and I love doing it. I feel like this area has a lot of room to grow and could become something pretty cool. If you really think this place is boring, do something about it. Find an interest, see if there's a community for it, and try to get involved. It doesn't have to be music, that's just my thing. The community for whatever it is may be small, but maybe by getting involved you can help it grow. Sitting on your ass and complaining isn't going to help.

Its going to continue to be a boring uncool shithole if we just sit back and complain and don't do anything about it. At least support local events and places if you don't want to get directly involved.

For anyone not wanting to pay $75 for a FPSF ticket, Groupon is offering one for $42... In hindsight, this pisses me off. by MrSllewin houston

Got a Fancy Pants for 40 bucks in one of the earliest pre-sales. Knew I was going to be going no matter what the line-up was, so I figured I might as well get them super cheap.

What trivial act would you like to ban or make illegal? Personally, I would like to outlaw public speakers who start off by saying, "I can't hear you!" or "Let's try that again!" by danger_mcboomin AskReddit

I'm still waiting for a real encore. As in, one not on the setlist that the band does just because the crowd is going crazy. I know thats hard to do for a lot of bands nowadays since they have the light show coordinated to their set, but still. Haven't been to a concert yet that's had that.

LA Noire is probably the weakest out of the 4, but I did like the game a lot. Specially at the beginning, near the end it did definitely get repetitive. I really hope they make a sequel (even with Team Bondi apparently no more), because I feel like there's a ton of potential if they fix a few things

Why doesn't Houston pull in more concerts? by BlakeFromFinancein houston

[–]lot183 2 points3 points ago

In response to just about everyone here, we get skipped a LOT on tours. Maybe not the biggest acts, but a lot of the medium sized/smaller acts skip us. Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Spiritualized, the Darkness, At the Drive-In, Jeff Mangum and the Temper Trap are all examples of just a few artists that have skipped Houston but still hit Austin/Dallas in the past year or two (Sufjan, Jeff Mangum, and Spiritualized specially hurt, really wanted to see them). We get a lot, but still miss out on a lot of stuff too. I've always wondered it too, Houston is much bigger than Dallas or Austin. Plus, every concert I'm at I talk to people from various areas like the Beaumont area or Lufkin area, so it covers a wide range (I myself am from the Beaumont area, and drive out to Houston for concerts)

working a very similar job, one time my coworker friend was carrying out for someone. He askes how they were doing and they said their dog had died earlier that week. Well he opens the trunk of their car to put the groceries in and inside is the ladys dead dog, just sitting there

If you could see any band/musician live in concert, dead or alive, who would it be? by brittythebossin AskReddit

Based on videos I've seen and things I've heard, it sounds like this tour is still really good.

What can i do to make myslef stand out to colleges? by jeffthebossin AskReddit

[–]lot183 0 points1 point ago

Do some good volunteer work. I volunteered for a local nonprofit music festival a little while back, and ended up to the point where I was straight up booking the music. I applied for a scholarship that involved a face to face interview, and they were super impressed with that which helped me get the scholarship. I also coached a U12 boys basketball team with a friend during my senior year.

I just filled out my first job application. It's for a grocery store. What was your first job and what is your favorite memory from it? by MitchOssimPantsin AskReddit

[–]lot183 0 points1 point ago

Grocery store. Still working there, two years now (I'm 18 now). I don't really like the job itself (though I've kinda become numb to it), but it pays better than most other jobs I could get at this point, and its really easy to get off if I need it which is good for me, I'm scared another job won't do that. I don't really have a specific favorite memory, but because of it I've had a lot of awesome/funny stories to tell.

If you could see any band/musician live in concert, dead or alive, who would it be? by brittythebossin AskReddit

Both Queen or Nirvana would be amazing concerts. As for people who are alive, to see in 2012, my top 3 that I haven't seen are Paul McCartney, Daft Punk, and Bruce Springsteen.

Tequila Rok has great shows a lot. Nearly every week. Lots of great local bands, the local music scene really is pretty good, you just have to look into it. I haven't actually been to one of those SUB parties yet but the regular shows at Tequila Rok are great. The Gig (which is next door) has some decent shows every once in a while. And the Victoria House has some good shows too. It can be hard to find out about them sometimes, but follow all the venues on Facebook/Twitter and stuff like that. Let me know if you want some links to keep up with it all.

Moving to Houston in two weeks by Micker216in houston

[–]lot183 1 point2 points ago

Amazing music festival in Houston. If you live anywhere nearby, you can not miss it. Very cheap for the price. Atmosphere is great, I would have a fun time even if the line-up sucks, but it doesn't. This year they have Avett Brothers, Snoop Dogg, Willie Nelson, Primus, Flaming Lips, Descendents, Major Lazer, Afrojack, Portugal.the Man, Young the Giant, and tons more, and every year they have a ton of local acts play it. I know I sound like an advertisement, but I can't endorse this thing enough. I'm super happy/proud theres something like this in Houston, and I don't want anyone missing it.

I know, this makes me sad. I couldn't drive out to Austin or Dallas on this short of notice. I'm really hoping they get added to Free Press Summer Fest, it'd fit perfectly.

What (realistic) Bands/Music Artists would you like to see in Beaumont? by lot183in setx

[–]lot183[S] 1 point2 points ago

Thanks for the suggestions! GIVERS are actually near the top of my priority list, I've wanted to get them here since I started doing this. They blew up between now and the last time they were in Beaumont though, which is probably why they haven't been by in a while, but I'm going to try. I also would love Vagabond Swing because I've missed them the past two-three times because I was busy, but I keep hearing amazing things. I wasn't a part of the festival when they booked Scott Biram, but ill talk to the people that were and see about that. Robert Ellis is a good one too, his new album is pretty damn good and I want to mix in a few (good) country acts if possible. I'll look into all of these, thanks!

I live in Nederland, but I go out to Beaumont enough that I don't really mind, because nothing really happens in Nederland.
