Poor college student. Woke up to find ~$80,000 deposited into my account from my employer. by suddenlyrichin AskReddit

[–]kry1212 0 points1 point ago

One time I wrote a deposit slip wrong. I assure you on accident, but it was $100 more than the actual deposit. I realized the mistake a day later, called the bank and the person the check was from. I just wanted to be sure the amount debited from the writer wasn't wrong, really.

In the end, I got the $100. Fuck yea.

Seven years ago, my dad smuggled us out of Iraq after my mother and younger sister was raped and murdered by Al Qaeda. Today we filled out these forms to make us official citizens of Turkey. by NewLifeForUsin pics

[–]kry1212 22 points23 points ago

Seven years ago? In 2005? When the US Army had a war sized presence there still? I don't recall Al Quaeda being the biggest threat there in 2005....

I'm not saying these sorts of things didn't happen in that period. I'm just skeptical of the source, being that after Team America came in the opposing factions were religious not political. Hell, they didn't really have names besides sunni and Shia.

This happened when I jest moved in with my ex husband, but it wasn't me; it was him. I couldn't even initiate, he was in the mood less.

It ebbed and flowed over the course of the marriage, we recently broke up and are happier for it.

I'm 25 years old. I've pretty much run out of options... Would joining the military really be that bad of an idea? by Niqalyein AskReddit

Conscientious objector isn't really a sure-fire way out. I saw a few get put on Chaplain detail and they couldn't leave the chapel. One was finally discharged 3 years later. They did get out of Iraq, though.

This isn't true at all. It's relatively easy to get out when in IET status. They discourage it but it's well within your rights. Basically, during the six first months of training, you can get out on a "failure to adapt" which literally is "didn't like it."

You're also under no real legal obligation to "ship." If you decide before getting on that plane/bus/whatever that it isn't for you, you can still get out of it.

Once in, there are a multitude of ways to get out. You can simply leave for 90 days (AWOL), and when you go back they will discharge you. There are a few more details and it ends up being a general discharge, but I've known a few who found this worth it to them.

(my experience is related to the U.S. Army, I spent some time in a PAC office that dealt with all the separations, I even helped a few get out with my insider knowledge - however, some shit could have changed since 2005)

I joined in 1999 under Clinton very naive and idealistic. I ended up hating it and I couldn't wait to get out. I served my full term and separated honorably. I invaded Iraq, hated every minute of it, and in general I'm glad I'm out.

That said: If I had it all to do over you're damn right I would.

Here's what I would change: First off, idealism. You're going to go somewhere, it's not going to be for any noble or just reason. Just get it out of your head. You're a mercenary even though they specifically outline that you are not one in the UCMJ. If you're OK with it and you can reconcile it, proceed.

Second: Choose your job very carefully. Think very hard about what sort of training you would like to acquire and how it will transfer to the civilian world after you're out. I strongly suggest any intel field, medical, logistics/supply, or cook. Aviation is good if you do it "right" and get your aircraft and powerplant license, or drop paperwork and go pilot. Infantry, artillery, and all the "hooah" shit will help you become a cop or a contractor mercenary.

Be realistic about your job options. If you're color blind, extremely tall, or have any other health concerns job placement gets tricky.

The college money for doing 4 years post 9/11 is phenomenal. I don't think twice about school bills and I know I'll be finished with $0 in student loan debt. When I graduate at 32 that will really mean a lot to me.

That's great, but you know who really should have been researching this? I mean, they should have fucking researched it in the first place, before releasing it in 1898.

Oh. Yea. It was the "non addictive alternative" to morphine. The "cure for tuberculosis." hahahahaha

Yea. Bayer should have fucking paid for this one.

Choosing video games over sex is not a fake problem. by wiredntiredin sex

[–]kry1212 5 points6 points ago

Yikes. Honestly I expected this to be a late adolescent boy. You're dealing with a 28 year old boy :/

My ex husband and I were big gamers. Gaming didn't kill the marriage but it sure as hell didn't help it. He's now a 37 year old gamer with little to no interest in continuing dating.

Good luck.

[–]kry1212 2 points3 points ago

This sounds like a "younger" relationship. You didn't give us any clue to your respective ages that I can see, so I'm guessing 18-25? Perhaps college?

It's a maturity thing with the video games. Evaluate your needs, talk to him about them, if he can't comply, time to move on.

If its something like skyrim, it can be pretty captivating, and I won't say it's ALWAYS inappropriate to choose gaming over sex, but it should be the exception and not the rule.

For the record I was not there. I was in grade 6 with this girl Lori. She and her brother were from Guam. Her older brother was in my sisters grade (8th). People tended to intermingle, he like my sister a lot, etc.

One night out of the blue phone rings. The older brother is dead. Roulette, drinking, and a house party full of 12-15 year olds. They tried to blame a lot of other substances, but...
