Why does the trip there seem to take exponentially longer than the trip back?

Yep! It's super.

For me, "there" is usual an hour or so to the beach. It takes forever. Then when the day is over, and the long ride home looms ahead, it goes by in a flash, even if it's the end of the day and I just want to get home.

But you would think that the new experiences would be happening on the way there, and the trip home would be a bore. But it still seems to take half the time when you already know what to expect and the excitement is lessened.

Cutest disabling technique ever.

Newcomers, let me introduce you to one of reddits best-known trolls, LouF!

He is currently displeased with me for not banning a user by the name of "facehammer" for posting this comment in the /r/funny subreddit yesterday, and this is his retaliation.

Everyone, say "hi, LouF!"

I still use my gift almost every day. It took a month to arrive, since it came from the UK (I'm in the states), got here a few days after Christmas, and it still blows my mind that a stranger on the Internet took the time and energy to send it to me. I love my gift, I can't wait for December, and kickme444 is the fucking man.

There are much, much better ways to solve that problem than to take away our precious terminology.

Using google isn't proof! All that proves is that the term "reddit" is more popular than the term "subreddit", which I already knew.

Try using a more user-focused search:

  • The term "subreddit" - thousands of posts using that term to describe them.

  • The term "community" - thousands of posts, mostly non-related, but in this context, people refer to the entire site (be it reddit, or Digg, or wherever) in general as a "community" (except for va's post, of course).

People see us all as one big community, not as thousands of separate ones.

Every single user on this site refers to the "communities" as subreddits. I have never once seen someone refer to it as a community. The term "subreddit" is not confusing or awkward at all- it's what we've always used, and its meaning is special to the users here because it's ours. No other community can refer to their sub-communities as subreddits, and I think the changing it devalues what it means, here, to be a community.

Um... Most of the people in this thread supported keeping the terminology "subreddit" rather than "community"...?

How did the tongue evolve?

krispykrackers 0 points1 point 8 days ago[-]

Pulling with your diaphragm alone gives you less control over swallowing. Think about slurping soup from a spoon- simply inhaling would cause you to choke. You first slurp it into your mouth, then swallow. It's all in the tongue.

I'm not sure if they alerted any authorities in the states about his arrival back, but the Haitian authorities are practically nonexistent. The place doesn't have a whole lot of "order" about things. I didn't know his name, and I'm unaware of what was done to prosecute him at all, everything I heard after he was sent away was bits and pieces from different people. Maybe they sought to get him legally punished, but I imagine it would be hard to prove anything. I think they just wanted him out of there.

The narcotics were not under lock and key because there were too many nurse volunteers who needed them coming and going to keep up with handing keys around. There were sometimes Haitian volunteers camped in there, keeping an eye on things, but it was very unorganized and I mostly just went down and grabbed what I needed when I needed it.

And yes, the worst of times seem to bring out the worst in some people. The hospital needs a lot of things, security being one of them, but it's hard when there are lines of people waiting in the ER for treatment every day, the only people you work with are complete strangers, and constantly changing, and you're working in a place where little to no real police authority can be guaranteed for anything. There's a certain level of trust you have to have, or else running a non-profit hospital would be impossible.

You should go if you can. It will reaffirm everything about why you do what you do as a nurse.

Hey Reddit, look what I found while I was walking down my road!

krispykrackers [M] 7 points8 points 8 days ago[-]

I get what you're trying to do, really, I do. But a novelty account is only good up to a certain point, and when you start scaring people, you pass that point. And, technically, singling out and harassing a user is against the rules, and creepy, so please stop doing it to carlsene912, by his/her request, and mine.

I think I'd rather see "Create your own subreddit" more, I think of them more like separate buildings all in one neighborhood rather than different neighborhoods altogether (or if that's too abstract, different subreddits in one big community rather than separate communities).

And shouldn't "Submit a link" be changed to "Submit a post"? Or something? Some people get confused when trying to submit self posts because those aren't external links.
