If you want to be proficient at Bowgunning you need to really know your monster. For instance, what were you fighting that you unloaded Normal shots on? Was it a Diablos? If so, you would have been better off with either Pierce shots or Ice elemental shots. However, if it were something small, like a Jaggi, than Normal shots are fine. As for bowgun construction -- once you have a better understanding of what the different shots do and what monsters they are effective against, well it all falls into place. I'd recommend some time with VampireCosmonaut's Bowgun Companion:

As for your blademaster armor sets...

The best Lance set according to many is Agnaktor for Guard +1-2 and Razor Sharp. You can gem in anything else you'd like. I also like Barioth for the Evasion+1-2 and/or Evade Distance Up

The best for GS where you are now would probably be Diablos for Critical Draw.

I've played about 200 hours of MHFU with a PSP Go and I love it. While you sacrifice the comfortable claw you can get with the PSP 1-3000, the benefits are paused game states, video out capabilities, and bluetooth which allows you to sync up a Dualshock 3 controller. When I am at home I play on my TV with the D3, when I am out and about I just use it normally. Note that the right analog doesn't do anything of course on the D3. It's also nice to carry a bunch of other games with you since the Go's harddrive is so large. I also bought a 16 GB memory stick for other games and backing up save files.
