Part of the budget increase is probably because of Croatian membership in 2013

No, those are Euros (€). AAA titles usually cost 50€, or 40-45€ if the publisher is fair. 60€ is just milking it. 60€ = $80

If you don't want to pay it then buy the cheaper version

No, the cheaper version is 80$. It's not entitlement, it's economics. this game will not sell well in most of Europe.

This is getting out of hand... by tppielin gaming

[–]keks01 2 points3 points ago

I don't think $60 is ridiculous, but $80 definitely is. And while the costs have gone up, so have the number of sales. It's not an excuse for piracy, but 60€ for the base game and 80€ (More than $100!!!) for the full game is ludicrous, especially since most Europeans would like to play with European city sets.

UK police privatisation: Private companies could take responsibility for investigating crimes, patrolling neighbourhoods and even detaining suspects in new plans by bibsin europe

[–]keks01 9 points10 points ago

My bet is, the public insurers would quickly become obsolete.

I disagree. By comparing the NHS and other European health insurance systems and the US health insurance flustercuck you can see that the US spends way more on healthcare than other developed countries.

Also, I believe that healthcare is a human right and that no one should be denied treatment just because they don't have the money to pay for it.

UK police privatisation: Private companies could take responsibility for investigating crimes, patrolling neighbourhoods and even detaining suspects in new plans by bibsin europe

[–]keks01 7 points8 points ago

I agree, but the artice also says this:

"The breathtaking list of policing activities up for grabs includes investigating crimes, detaining suspects, developing cases, responding to and investigating incidents, supporting victims and witnesses, managing high-risk individuals, patrolling neighbourhoods, managing intelligence, managing engagement with the public, as well as more traditional back-office functions, such as managing forensics, providing legal services, managing the vehicle fleet, finance and human resources."

Bold items are the ones I find really questionable. I'm not sure yet how I feel about "responding to and investigating incidents", "supporting victims and witnesses" and "patrolling neighbourhoods"

[–]keks01 9 points10 points ago

You have the right to choose your doctor, you can't choose who is going to arrest you or investigate you. Also NHS is public, should public health insurance be privatized too?

To be clear, I'm all for private competition to public services because it leads to meaningful choices for the consumer. If I can choose between public insurance and multiple private insurances, that's great. If I can choose to go to hospital A or B, great! But I can't choose who will investigate me (deny me my right to privacy) or detain me (deny me freedom of movement)

BBC News - EU summit: All but two leaders sign fiscal treaty by nickstreet36in europe

I guess that will cause some problems in parts of the public sector in the coming years, but with strong liberalisation (as it is happening now) the private sector could easily balance that out. I'm not really worried about Italy anymore, but that could change if somehow Berlusconi returns in 2013 or if the situation in the rest of Europe starts destabilising again.
