How do you exercise as effectively and efficiently at home as you would in the gym? by hellohaleyin Frugal

Bodyweight exercises are awesome. Check out Rebel Fitness, he does sell a program but he has tons of free videos. No equipment needed.

Also, I used cinder blocks as weights until I found free weights at a yard sale.

Agreed. Trapping is how I would do it. Trap, grab, and cut.

We R/Frugal Week 1: Frugal Food by Havenin Frugal

Several stores in my area put "reduced" produce on a cart in the back of the store. I go to each one on wednesdays to get what I can. A pound of tomatoes at perfect ripeness can be had for $1... sometimes less.

They do the same with ready to expire meat, though it's not as well reduced.

Bread too, but I don't eat grains/bread/flour so it's out for me.

Digestive issues with the change in diet. I am going to suggest it will go away on its own, but will take time (days or weeks) while your body adjusts. I also recommend fermented foods.... saurkraut, kimchi, fermented veggies like fermented pickles. They really fixed me for other digestive issues and also constipation.

TIL that the TMI tag is the silliest thing I have ever seen. Plus... it's brown and that made me laugh.

No problem. I grew up in Upstate NY and was stunned when no one had ever heard of it where I moved to. That and Spiedies

Why you make small batch?! I use my stick blender, no drizzle needed. 30 seconds to 2 cups of premium mayo.

Cheap food, I believe. In season, on sale is good survival food. I am not a fruit fan because I don't consider what we see in the store anything but lumps of fructose.... but in some situations, it's better than resorting to pasta for sure.

When I was in a bad way last year, I fed 2 adults and 2 teens on $50 per week with very similar guidelines. Safe Starches (boiled, skinless potatoes and white rice) as well as bulk buys of eggs, frozen veggies, and even trading with hunters (BEST DEALS EVER!) to get what we required... all made it happen, week after week.

I have 3 grocery stores within 10 miles of my house and I have them scheduled this way too. One of them is where I get all my meat and nothing else. Another is for getting all the produce (from their marked down cart near the back), and the 3rd for butter, seafood, and frozen stuff.

I have done this with a family of 4 for $50 when I HAD to. Now, we are doing about $80 per week for the 4 of us. $30 for a single person should be possible.... here's a couple of my meal plans (understand I rarely eat more then 1-2 meals per day because I am just not hungry).

My favorite meal before changing my diet: rice, mashed lentils, and crispy garlic pork with hot sauce. I boiled the lentils in water that just covered them for about 40 minutes or until very soft. Then I mashed them adding salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, and a little hot sauce. If you leave until the next day in the fridge, it's even better.

We often used to spread it on a tortilla thickly, add a little rice on that, then sharp cheddar and mozzarella. Fold, brush with olive oil and bake for 10-15 minutes. Sooooo good.

Best way I've found to cook chicken (see my comment for slight modifications) by MDesignerin Paleo

[–]hydrazi 0 points1 point ago

I take the chicken breast without the skin (because of the makeup of chicken fat you get from the store, I'd rather add my own good fat)... I slice each breast horizontally. I lightly pound each half with a fist and then season it crazily.

Then lots of coconut oil or lard or grassfed butter in the pan on high. Drop them in after they reached room temperature. 6 minutes a side (maybe 7) and let em rest.

You really should consider buying an entire cryovac primal as I am willing to bet it would be about the same price with 30% more meat. But that looks delicious.

I love the hearty stew idea and the pre-baked potatoes. We also do sausages in the over, 3-4 packages and server with sauerkraut. Tastes great, $8 for 3 packages of big old sausages, and the sauerkraut will kick up the immune system.

I agree. The corn syrup alone.... I totally agree.
There are plenty of unprocessed foods to fit this bill that wicked cheap. Potatoes, lentils, eggs, and the like.
