Students in Quebec were asked to send the cops the route of their march. Here's what they replied with. by PunPuncherin funny

I am from Europe as well and it took me a bit to wrap my head around it, but now I really admire their stance on freedom of speech and right to demonstrate. For them it is a direct attack against their democtratic rights and it's amazing to see.

I live in Montreal, about 20 minutes away from Downtown, where all the protests are. So there are little to no students here, mostly just normal people. And yesterday when I walked down the street at the corners they gathered, making noise with pans in protest to the new bill.

I honestly think that the drama surrounding these student protests is being carefully calculated by the Liberal government as a red herring to take the heat off the upcoming corruption inquiry. by kylemacmacin montreal

What makes this different for me (and take it with a grain of salt, I am only living here for 2 years) is that now the regular folks are out on the street. I live in Rosemont and yesterday there where people at a lot of street corners, protesting.

I don't think this can be well orchestrated.

Just as food of thought. So you're saying that everyone has the right to demonstrate, but only if he is 100% healthy? No medication needed for Asthma, Insuline things like that?

That and you might have people in there with medical conditions, or just people that need a bio break.

Kettling is pretty fucked up, don't know what the legalities of it are here I wouldn't be surprised if there are some lawsuits coming up from this later on. How long was it?

But don't you think that with the current dissent the corruption investigations are just going to add more fuel to the fire?

I honestly think your tinfoil hat is not working.

Of course in a situation like this, with a lot of moving parts they will try and maximize their gains, but saying that they created this on purpose... really?

Bang, bang, bang. The streets are alive with the sound of pots and pans. by Wellardin montreal

I love it. I don't believe that throwing rocks into shops or burning police cars is going to change anything. But when the nurses, teachers, officer workers and house wives go on the street things can change. I love it.

Yes, the color of the item tells you more about the amount of stats than their quality.

It used to be like that in the older versions as well. The thing is those items are missing other necessary stats. So yes, you get more DPS out of them, but you still get pummeled.

And yeah, arresting the owner of a restaurant for wearing the red square goes to far. It is still far from calling it fascism though.

Visiting with a dog - any unwritten rules to know? by ikedavisin VisitMontreal

[–]farox 1 point2 points ago

Hey! In general people are pretty dog friendly from my experience. You have to keep him on the leash at all times though, except for the dog park. Luckily in la fountain park is one. Always pick up after him, of course.

Also you can't take dogs into public transportation, which sucks a lot. Same goes for restaurants, however here it never hurts to ask and there is a good chance you can bring him. I don't have much experience with that though, maybe someone else wants to share as well.

Ok, you got me wrong here. I didn't mean to say that you are trolling, but that freedom of speech is not a licence to trolling and it has it's limitation.

Even in Canada.

Anyway, my point is, if you want to peacefully demonstrate, running around and calling policemen fascists doesn't help your cause and only creates more tension which facilitates escalation. If that is your goal you're an asshole.

From what I see there are people on both "sides" of this that would like to see that happen. (Like the cop that took the kids skateboard, although I am missing the context here)

And in my opinion neither is better and both should get fucked.

The one screenshot I saw only had the domain name in the message. Spam filters might legitimately kick those out.

Did you try using the same from/to adr. and send the same kind of message with another new/small/unknown/not existing domain?

For example take the text from your comment above, send that and see what happens.

Actually, reality is going to have some nice surprises for you. The freedom of speech covers a lot of concerns, among them to participate in political discourse, but it's not a licence to troll.

Read up on it.

See, and this is where you and I have to agree to disagree then.

I do think that the rhetoric is blown way out of proportion and doesn't serve anything in this case.

false equivalency helps nobody.

You are right with that though.
