Wall Street Journal bitches about Banned Books Week - says the ALA shouldn't be putting any attention to censored books. "[Banned Books Week] is a way for government employees to bully ordinary citizens by stigmatizing those who complain" by dmagz37in WTF

Agreed. It's convoluted as fuck. I think I gave too sensationalist of a headline when submitting this though. I was a bit frustrated while reading it - just realizing that they were writing a negative piece on the ALA's "Banned Books Week"

Sorry, and I don't mean to be a dick when I say this, but exactly WHAT point were they trying to make?

The same can be said about the Tea Party protests. What were they protesting? Obama's entire agenda? The G20 protesters were protesting the top 20 economic power's agendas. It doesn't have to be a unified theme. The point is to show that there is harsh dissent towards the policies that are currently in place.

But please don't link to Breitbart. It's a garbage, biased news source.

Hey /r/Music, what are your favorite tunes to study / read / quietly working to? by hamncheesein Music

[–]dmagz37 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yes - Great picks - I often listen to Explosions in the Sky while working.

What's funny is that when I tell people that I listen to them, they ask me what my favorite record is or my favorite song - and I don't even know. I never pay attention to the album or song names. Just put on their discography and let it shuffle (Not the kind of music I give full attention too - Great background music though)

Try not to laugh. Gaborik is already running into injury problems at Rangers training camp. by kmadin hockey

Jesus Christ - If Gaborik busts, and the team doesn't sign on Dubinsky, they are dead in the water. As of now, the Rags are barely a playoff contender (Their division is just too stacked).

Going from a team with one of the deepest line ups in the league (Dubi was the 3rd liner last year! He may very well be the first line center this season) to a squad that puts all of it's eggs in one basket (with Gaborik) is scaring me.

Don't worry - the Preds really aren't that bad of a team. I'd expect them to be in playoff contention again this year.

Not sure if there's too many Preds fans here - but I figure it was worth sharing for any American hockey fans down in that area.

Help! I'm a Beatles hater by ynohooin entertainment

[–]dmagz37 6 points7 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Agreed. My only issue with The Beatles is the overall consensus that they pretty much invented modern rock and roll. I really don't like this argument - many bands built up the theory that's behind current pop-rock music. I'm a bigger fan of the later Beatles work.

Let's be honest here, and tear down the sacred walls of the band of the walrus - "I want to hold your hand" was very poppy, even for it's time. Remember, Elvis had already been out playing poppy, blues-driven "rock and roll" and Roy Orbison were already pushing the limits of rock. Early Beatles just reinforced (arguably perfected) current trends. Admirably, they pushed the envelope after first gaining success with their more experimental music, but at first, they were just another catchy rock band - that was marketed extremely well.

I hope your likes stay abroad and never venture back into Baghdad, lest you return to your racist and genocidal ways.

Thank you for posting this. As I dug deeper into these comment threads and Baghdadification's true beliefs became more and more exposed, I kind of became annoyed. He's a Saddam sympathizer. He lived in a nation where the media was controlled, and his people benefited from the dictator's policies.

You can judge the justification of the past wars (and current war), and you can debate the politics of Iraq, and the world's outlook on it - but don't go around beating the drum for a mass-murderer.

TIME: The outburst wasn't an insult, but a gift- Wilson proved Obama's point: the summer of town halls had been less a discussion than a circus, with misinformation vindicated by passion, and disrespect elevated as a virtue. by jjrsin politics
