I agree. It's defiantly good to get both a degree and experience. With my course, my 3rd year is a 'work placement', so I have to work with an organisation that's related to my course for that year. My friend who does the same course (he's two years ahead of me) just got his placement year with Cisco. The University also has strong links with Intel/IBM/Citrix and many others.

The reason I chose doing an engineering course over a pure networking degree was it simply offers me more avenues to go down. And personally I think that's the key. To have a good knowledge of many areas instead of just excelling at one area, at least at the early stages of my career. But that's just my thoughts.

I'm just about to go off to University to study 'Computer engineering' and I think this /r is awesome. Some very insightful people, and it's really interesting to see what's actually going on, and how people feel. I love the threads when someone asks "What's it like being an network engineer" or something along those lines. I can see the types of things people are actually doing in the field and the general view of networking is about.

I would imagine it's quite hard to define the different jobs in networking tho. Personally I would say an engineer is someone who's actually implementing the system, and not necessarily designing it. But that could be completely wrong.

I'm very new to networking so mostly I just lurk and try and learn a few things of the more experienced people.

Personally I found out about Wheadon from Buffy. So if I'd make a shirt like that, I'd make a Buffy one. But this is kinda the same as the people who say "I was a fan of [insert band] before [insert mainstream film/advert].

400 Aspirin and you didn't die? Wow. It's incredible how there's cases of completely healthy people having sudden heart attacks and blood clots, yet someone who tries their hardest to kill themselves cant. Strange world we live in. I just want to give you a hug =). I hope you get clean. I thought my story was bad, doesn't even compare to yours. Good luck!

That's awesome to hear! Cant say the same in my country (England). You've got all kinds of rental stores from family run, to massive franchises going out of business. It's sad to me because I feel the next generation wont have that "You wanna rent a movie?" type moments. I mean I understand completely that the industry is changing and evolving into new ways for people to get content they want on demand, but I dunno maybe I'm being to nostalgic.

I feel sorry for rental stores. Happy memories were had going to the store with my best friend on a Friday evening and renting DVD's when we were kids. Buying loads of the confectionery they always have at the counter. Sad really.

Book came out when I was about five. My sister who was really into reading bought it and was completely hooked. She probably read it multiple times within a week. Being the younger brother I always nagged her about it, until she finally let me read it about a month after it was released. Then i was hooked.

Well as well as reading the books, I also had the audio books when I was young. Every night I'd fall asleep to them. One of my favorite moments was when Harry kisses Ginny for the first time after they win the Quidditch cup and Harry looks at Ron and JK writes something along the lines of "Ron gave an expression as if to say, go on then". I always remember shouting 'Go on Harry' followed by wolf whistles. =)
