Poll: Would you pay $4 a month to eliminate TV commercials? by BlankVersein entertainment

[–]clashfan 0 points1 point ago

Totally. I already pay $8 each for Netflix and Hulu, why not another $4 to get rid of ads. Only I seriously doubt that $4 would cover the lost commercials.

Uh-Oh, next season of 'Community' moved to Fridays, with 'Whitney' as lead-in by gundamsudoku003in entertainment

[–]clashfan 0 points1 point ago

Friday is the death spot and has been for the past few decades. In the '80s it wasn't as Dallas and Falcon Crest drew massive audiences. But since then... shows die in those spots, exception The X-Files.

Men at Work - "Land Down Under" - Yeah, that good old unofficial Aussie anthem by thatcrazynewsguyin Music

Damn that makes me feel old. It came out when I was a teenager and I practically wore that LP out.

Seinfeld's sophisticated, strange sitcom inspired a whole generation of comics – so why is there nothing quite like it today? by mjk1093in entertainment

[–]clashfan 1 point2 points ago

I don't think there's think anything on the air like it now. Most tv comedies nowadays seem to be children of "The Office" and not "Seinfeld."

Is Freddy Mercury one of the best vocalist of all time? by GayBabyBoyin Music

In rock music, yes most definitely. But that needs to be qualified as rock and not every genre of music.

I am SO looking forward to this show, but then West Wing is my favorite show ever, so how could I not love this.

Hulu Puts Gun To Own Head: May Require Users To Show Proof Of Pay TV Subscription by nomdewebin entertainment

[–]clashfan 0 points1 point ago

What really needs to happen for broadcast tv to not only survive, but thrive is for cable to move to ala carte.

I get like 500 channels and I use maybe 10-15 of them. I'd rather pay for the ones I want and not the ones I don't. If some channels can't survive under that model, then good. The entertainment marketplace wouldn't be so littered with mediocre products then and great products like HBO and Showtime would garner ever more paid subscribers, so they could do even more great original programming. Why should we be propping up networks we don't watch.

Hulu Puts Gun To Own Head: May Require Users To Show Proof Of Pay TV Subscription by nomdewebin entertainment

[–]clashfan 4 points5 points ago

Huh? Doesn't that defeat the whole streaming model? Many folks may opt out of cable because of rising costs and the inability purchase ala carte and use Netflix and Hulu instead. All Hulu will do is drive people away and drive down the value of their network properties.

The Favored Daughter: One Woman's Fight to Lead Afghanistan into the Future - Fawzia Koofi with Nadene Ghouri

9/10

Memoir

Koofi’s memoir will most likely be one of the most inspiring books of 2012. It details her life from childhood through her reelection to Parliament in 2010 and shows the complexities of not only her own life but of Afghan society.

You know that London is going to have th best opening ceremony ever. They will certainly have the best music and best designed costumes. I bet there will be a bunch of Minis driving around the stadium with pop stars in them decked out in Ted Baker or something like that.

Pulp - Common People by hard_to_explainin Music

It might be the best Britpop sing ever. I think it's held up better over time than those early Oasis singles and there's no single Blur single as important as that Pulp song. Emblematic of the era.

If it can't be the Bulls because of Rose's injury, I sure hope it's the Spurs that win it all. Talk about a team of class acts, headlined by Duncan.

A message from the playoffs gods to Chicago. [x-post from r/Chicago] by PresidentJonStewartin sports

Pretty sick image, especially since something like this can actually be a career ending injury or at least a serious career altering one. I don't care if I can't stand a team... I never want to see any player injured.

It is. Check out the awesome Ronnie Lane documentary that they just loaded up along with all those Eagle Rock releases. So far the best thing I've seen on him. There isn't much in the way of documentary material on the Small Faces, which is really sad.
