As a movie theatre employee, I think you'd be surprised how much the loud complainers overlap with the people who buy the stuff at full price anyway.

So, PatientGamers...why are you patient? by AryanNinjain patientgamers

Hype is one of my biggest hurdles. I just bought Twilight Princess on Black Friday and a friend replied to my Facebook status about it saying "I bet you'll be getting Skyward Sword, then? You'll love it!" I told him I might get it in a couple years.

I prefer to buy my games after everyone else has forgotten about them.

Just Wondering... how many Redditors sneak food into the theater? by Buck0Fivein movies

Pay for a ticket? I work there, I get in for free.

I work at an AMC Theatre in upstate NY. We are one of only 3 in our region (the closest is about two hours away, and the last is about 2.5 hours away, both are in different cities from mine.) In my city, there is a single AMC, three Regals, a dollar theatre, two small independent theatres, and one IMAX (Cinemark.)

My AMC's general pricing is $5 Monday through Thursday before 6pm for all tickets. After 6pm, it is $5 for children, $7.50 for adults. Friday through Sunday, it is $5 before noon, $7.50 for adults and $5 for children between noon and 4pm, and $10 for adults, and $7.50 for children after 4pm. Weekday pricing excludes weekday openings (in which case it is treated as a weekend) and special events. It is an additional $3/ticket for a 3D movie.

Do you live in a large city? When I lived in NYC, it was $12 for a matinee at the AMC down the street. Here in Rochester, it's obviously much different (but they also didn't start the weekday escape pricing until I had been home for a few months, so I don't know how much it changed at other AMCs across the board.)

If it cost as much as $18 to see a movie, I probably wouldn't go to that theatre. I'm patient, and I can wait for it to come to the second-run theatre.

While that's fucked up...

If that were the case, I would never get to see him

Not necessarily true, at least if you live in the US. Family courts are often a per-county basis, and just because there are charges don't mean that it's true. I babysit for a woman whose ex-husband tried to kill her and he was just granted joint custody of their two kids (both of whom he would abuse her in front of, one of whom witnessed him trying to shoot her) despite both kids having an order of protection against him. He was charged, but never convicted, so the judge figured it was okay to override the order of protection.

Not saying your mom wasn't lying. Just another example of the fucked up world.

At the theatre that I worked at, we didn't see a dime from ticket sales. Literally any money we made was from concession sales. It was probably because of a number of different factors, but still the end line is the same: If you like having that theatre around, give back somehow. Buy a single overpriced box of gummy bears, especially if your ticket was only $5.

New relationship, too surreal and need anecdotal stories of fellow redditors by ParachuteAwayyyyyin relationships

My relationship started out rushed. We got physical at a party, waited a week, and decided we'd like to date. It's going on its second year, now.

Different types of relationships work for different people. I'm not an emotional person, so if my SO had tried to initiate a relationship any other way I feel like it soils not have worked out.

That said, you should take my anecdote with a grain of salt. This could just be puppy love.

Pregnant woman pepper sprayed by cops during Seattle OWS protest miscarried by Nasicournusin WTF

[–]broshades 1 point2 points ago

You're just twisting my words, now. A woman that knows she is pregnant should not go to a protest where it is widely known that protesters are assaulted.

She should be able to. And yes, sadly, maybe it will take this case to stir the American sympathy to the point that these folks are allowed to peacefully assemble, but that doesn't change the fact that it was irresponsible of her to be there.

Not long ago, people on Redditors were commenting about how irresponsible it was for a woman to bring her child (her six year old son, I think? I'm not positve, since I only saw comments on Reddit, not the original source) to the protest knowing that violence was common. So how is it responsible in any way for a pregnant woman to show up?

Is agree there should not be that danger, especially when the protest is trying its best to be peaceful, but it doesn't change the fact that the danger is there and she should not have been.

I didn't say anything about FOX news, nor did I imply it was the protestors getting violent as you seem to think. It doesn't matter who caused it, if there may be violence, you do not bring a child (or your pregnant self) there.

I say she shouldn't have been there knowing she was pregnant, and she shouldn't blame the officer for the miscarriage (since what causes them is still largely a mystery.)

She should be able to go to court and sue, and walk away with wads of money in her hands, but not because she lost the baby. She should be suing because she was assaulted at a peaceful protest, not because she miscarried her baby.

Occupy protests has been all over the news as getting violent. If there was even a chance things were going to get violent, she shouldn't have been there if she knew she was pregnant.

My SO's family lives right on the border of Gates and Chili. Gates is getting swallowed by the city, but it's mostly centered closer to the airport. The closer to Chili you get, the more suburban it is.

I went through Southwedge properties ( myprettyhomes.com )

They focus on your employment and rental history. They did not do a credit check on me, and I was up front about having terrible credit. I have 2br on Monroe Ave and pay $610/month. For perspective, I looked at a place on Alexander that was smaller and was $800/month.

just a normal person

Exactly. I hope no one forgets that a lot of these cops are doing what they're doing in order to keep their job and take care of their families. The NYPD aren't acting of their own accord, they're acting under orders. The NYPD is the face of the offensive movement against OWS so everyone is getting angry with them, but we should be getting angry at the people above them that are pulling the strings.

Very interested in this.

US, eastern time zone.

I've got Xbox, PS3, Wii, and PC.

I'd love to play Little Big Planet with some redditors. I'm terrible at shooters but I'd be willing to give it a go if you guys can live with having a feeder on your team.

I also like the idea of a f2p mmo like DCUO.

Edit: Available mon-fri after 3:30 pm, except on Wednesdays, and all day Saturday and Sunday.

To be honest, I didn't get very far in either. Up until recently I worked two jobs so I only got to play games a few hours a day, and I don't have an HDTV so I couldn't read anything. I was doing quests without knowing what I was really doing, and conversation options were kind of "close your eyes and stab at the page." I've put them on hold until I can get a new TV.
