I used to work at cafe, I know about standing up for hours. Even with good shoes and rubber floor mats, my knees hurt by the end of the day. Maybe I'm a freak of nature. I have a $200 chair now and it's fantastically comfortable. If it's going to kill me, at least I'll die happy!

I can't imagine this being good. I didn't stand up all the time when I wasn't a designer. Just get a decent high-back chair that tilts and you'll be fine.

It sounds like you live in a small town where the jobs are scarce, the pay is low, and your co-workers are fat and boring. Design isn't the problem here. It seems more like you just need to save some money and move to 'the city'.

Looks like no one answered you. That is Art Chantry, a cynical designer who did a lot of posters and album covers for Seattle bands back in the day. You can follow him on facebook where he tells multi-paragraph stories of forgotten memorabilia. I've seen him speak a few times, he's a difficult person. He'll tell you that he hates art, that he is not an artist. He seems to think the attention is really stupid and has a disdain for money or opportunity.

I have found that it wasn't what people say it is. Everydayfromwork's first image seems accurate. People speak of freelancing as having more free time and making more money but that was far from the reality I lived. I'm making so much more in a salaried job with benefits and having a regular schedule actually lets me plan my free time better. I also don't spend countless stressful hours on craigslist and job boards.

No downvotes here but it sounds like you take 'philosophy' to mean 'western philosophy' and 'eastern philosophy' to mean 'not really philosophy'.

There should be an itunes plugin for tape flutter. I was listening to some 80s mp3s and they just don't sound right without that ducking compression and flutter that comes with well-loved tapes.
