you could try again later. maybe they fail understand what you are going through. on the bright side, there are many places (including r/SW) where people are willing to listen.

do you have close friends and family?

What is your reason to live? by SquirrelCoconutin SuicideWatch

[–]blondin 1 point2 points ago

ah, you shouldn't worry about that. honestly wouldn't be a bad thing in today's fast-paced, stressful life.

i do meditation. have you tried before? if not, mine (there are many many of them) is called Vipassana meditation. and the great instructor Jack Kornfield has an amazing voice.

hey there,

i understand that you might be having some difficult time right now. are you under a tremendous amount of stress at work or school? maybe you wanna talk to your friends about it, they would listen and try to help you cope better with it. or maybe you need a short break or a "slow-down" as they say.

happiness is a really strange subject that people have been trying to understand since the dawn of time. i unfortunately have no answer either. but i think being optimistic makes you happy, and that's why we dream of better things, of better days, good money, etc. but what happens once we get it? well, we are back to square one and look for more happiness :)

keep on hoping and stay strong, life is just that.

stay strong, it will get better. we make up and break up, that's unfortunately how we humans are. do not be depressed over it, even if it hurts a lot.

get involved in something like a video game, helping people, feeding stray animals, running with a group of people. anything that will keep your mind busy.

remember too, most of the time those things are no one's fault. it's not your fault :)

[–]blondin 1 point2 points ago

hey, just saw your post and thought i should tell you that things will get better. you need to believe in it. in this life problems never stop coming but once you start to see them from a different point of view and just accept that there are things you can't change, it gets better.

replied cause we are the same age and i have been through a lot before. it's not perfect right now, but i have learned to see differently.

do not give up.

Is it just me or is this subreddit just turning into people pushing their books or blogs? by brenda0923in books

[–]blondin 5 points6 points ago

indeed!

i don't mind aspiring writers promoting their own work. if something catches my fancy, i usually click on it.

what i do freely ignore are "my bf/gf has just written a book", "this is my mom's third book", "it took my dad 2 years to write this book, check it out".

well ok, i am not trying to be a bad person but posts like those that don't even tell you what kind of books they are linking too do not belong to this subreddit and OP is right on with her remark.

now what should we (r/books) do about it?

you are not alone.

i have had the same experience with cat's cradle after more than 150 pages. i admire the guy, i truly do but i have had this feeling for a long time that the explanation might be found in what the author has been through. i could be wrong.

[–]blondin 0 points1 point ago

hey there,

i am sorry that this is happening to you. your last sentence left me wondering whether your parents think you are in a position in which what you have to say/think/do about it matters.

if that is so, the "taping it" suggestion below might be far fetched, but not far away from a good advice. would you consider talking to someone in the family (cousin, uncle, aunt, etc...)?

(i put this one below here because not everyone is a believer, but you know one thing you could do if you were is talking to the minister of your church.)

do not give up on your parents and feel free to talk to /r/relationships about it too :)

Will anybody from r/books going to use this website that I am making? by jbrockerin books

[–]blondin 1 point2 points ago

depends... a previous comment already said how that particular book recommendation field is crowded. but is it really working?

my personal opinion is that it does not work well. and there are still ways to improve those services. i have built one on the concept of tagging books. it didn't quite work.

you will notice that every other day, there is a post here on r/books/ from someone asking for book recommendation. if all these services were working, people would use them instead. maybe there is something that's missing. and you might find that thing? :)

Recommendations for good biographies? by absinthe_robettein books

[–]blondin 1 point2 points ago

two came automatically to my mind:

the man who changed everything : James Maxwell. scientists only know him for his equations, but not only we have a unique man here, that everyone seems pleased with (i can't remember reading once that he was secluded or eccentric or anything, he simply killed the myth). and he was extremely funny and wrote many funny poetry. short read. inspiring.

Galileo's Daughter. another scientist's life. but there's a twist. people don't know much about his daughter. it broke my heart many times to know that while "locked" in a convent, living in extreme poverty, escaping death so many times, this daughter never ever criticized her father for putting them there, she even went through his most important documents and hand written them, without understanding what they mean, prayed for him almost everyday, handmade stuff for him... her story should be known.

hi there,

you mentioned that you are seeing a doctor but are you currently on a treatment? if so, have you mentioned to your doctor that the current might not be working? he might only help to the extent of the account he his given of the situation.

you may have difficulty talking to people in IRL but it is important that you give it another try. in all honesty people close to you might respond faster in case something happens to you. you might even be able to find someone online but in the same city live in.

hi there,

have you tried to see a specialist (therapist, counselor, etc...) about your thoughts? i read that some people are subject to depression and tiredness feelings but it happens only certain times during the year (it was is Night Falls Fast by Kay Jamison, a great book about suicide and depression...).

i was wondering whether it is something that is constantly there in your case, or a recurring thing. if so, you might want to try to find out exactly when they start. that might give you a good start.

i am no specialist however. take care and stay strong :)

hey there, fellow programmer and long time /r/SW reader here. our craft isn't sometimes as cool as the media portrays it right?

but tell us, have you tried to seek counseling? and also do you have any stress issues at work?

do not give up now. maybe you just need a time to recuperate. stay strong.
