What do you think is the biggest misconception people have about comic books? by Frankfusionin comicbooks

[–]blindsocnerd 3 points4 points ago

It absolutely was. People in theaters around the globe cheer during it. It was memorable. But, if that's the message that most people remember when they think of comic books, you're going to have a hard time convincing them that comics contain mature content.

What do you think is the biggest misconception people have about comic books? by Frankfusionin comicbooks

[–]blindsocnerd 4 points5 points ago

That the movies based on comic books are representative of the entire medium.

EDIT: Comics fans all point out that "comics aren't just for kids," "comics can be serious literature," "often mature themes,' etc, but when most people's exposure to comics are limited to movies featuring scenes like this one in the Avengers, the "not just for kids" claims seem incredulous. Scenes like that are great, lovable fun, but they're a far cry from maturity.

I'm having a hard time thinking of many Vertigo titles that have been successfully "mined." Watchmen was DC.

Non-american comic lovers! What's the comic scene in your country like? by giamgiamin comicbooks

[–]blindsocnerd 0 points1 point ago

Comic books in Russia? We got (practically) ничего. A "scene" does exist, but on an incredibly small scale. As far as I can tell, the entire city of Moscow has just one tiny, yet noble, retailer. There are a few gallery shows and lectures at small-scale conferences from time to time, but that's it. I suspect the scene is a bit larger in St. Petersburg than Moscow. I think Diamond might have a distributor here, but the cost and delay makes it impractical. I don't think regular releases exist here, either through imports or domestically produced comics, and I don't think there are any professional comic book creators here.
