Thanks so much. No other debts to pay off besides my mortgage and a very little amount left on my student loan at a very low interest rate (although, not that I think about it, paying that off might be a smart first step).

I'm 31, married with one child. i have savings that collects very little interest and I figured i'd just take a little money and see if I could make it work for me a little better than my savings is.

you actually have a lot of this wrong. SE collects and pays artists 50% directly so that the label won't claim their money. the fact that an unsigned artist can collect this money without any issues is a good thing, not a bad thing.
