I still think they should play this in the beginning of every movie at the theater... by zeryin videos

[–]aedile 28 points29 points ago

This is only one of many cool things the drafthouse does before movies. None of this advertisement bullshit you get at other places. Example: for the avengers, they played old-school avengers cartoons and the Avengers official shorts for like 30 minutes before the movie. It makes showing up early to get a good seat totally worth it.

You are correct, of course. I think we live in a unique time though. There has always been technological growth and development, but it is growing exponentially right now. As much as it blows my mind that people won't experience what I went through, it's almost mind-boggling to think that this is no longer a generation-gap thing, and is now a matter of 3-5 years. Look at Lytro. How long before that technology is moved into pro equipment? And what's around the corner that's even better? It's strange but at the same time exciting.

This made me feel old when they were going on about being a 15yo with a DSLR. When I was 15, the only digital cameras around were like $5k and used 3.5" floppy disks. I grew up on film. It's hard to think that there will be a bunch of photographers who've never used film. Not that they will be bad because of it, just different. There's something about not knowing what you're going to get. About forcing yourself to learn exposures because you don't want to waste $40 experimenting to get a single shot.

I'm sure it's been discussed here ad nauseum before, but the thought just occurred to me. :-D

Just FYI, there is an ableton live course going on at UReddit right now. There's a link a few days back in this sub. The class just started (still on lesson one).

As a side note, kale is, in fact, delicious. Drizzle lightly with olive oil, cracked pepper and salt. Bake in the oven at 350F for 15 minutes. Enjoy crisp delicious Kale chips that will shut up all your friends who claim you eat hamburgers too often.

Police Handcuffing 7-Year-Olds? The Brutality Unleashed on Kids With Disabilities in Our School Systems: As school budgets are cut, disabled students are being handed over to police for behavioral infractions -- and handcuffs are just the beginning of what they're forced to endure. by davidreiss666in politics

[–]aedile 8 points9 points ago

Absolutely incorrect. Downs kids, in general, have less strength than average due to high rates of obesity. As with many who are developmentally disabled, they just have a tendency to use full force on people at inappropriate times.

I was served by a bajoran dabo girl, and the seating hostess was Andorian. While I was eating, a random Borg walked by and scanned me, and a Klingon loudly challenged me to a headbutting contest.

Needless to say, I exploded into a million tiny pieces of pure joy.

Awwwww maaaaaan. With the dry ice, so it bubbled and fogged up, just like in the show.... Why, Paramount, did you have to take away our Graceland?

Yep. At the star trek experience. You could have some "Holy Rings of Betazed" (aka onion rings) while hobnobbing with minor characters who showed up all the time for autographs and people in full costume just roaming around in character. There were also some rides, but the bar was the cool part.

Fun fact, once labor starts, it can be 12 hours or longer before you move to the phase where you need to go to the hospital.

That crap where everyone speeds to the hospital with the baby popping out in the the cab on the way is pretty much TV BS.

Yeah, I worked for Wal-Mart in 2004, and they removed all of loss prevention, at least in the southwest, including the guy who was running it (from regional store #2599 in San Antonio) and replaced them with door greeters. This was due to a large number of lawsuits involving 110 and assaults (they had a tendency at the time to tackle first and ask questions later). Whether or not they have ever replaced them, I can't say as I left the company shortly after this. Fact of the matter is, though, that they disbanded store security in 2004.

Wal-mart, on the other hand, disbanded dept 110 (that's loss prevention) in 2004.

It sounds like some overzealous security guard happened to get something right, and screwed this guy over did his job.
