While I would guess you're being upvoted for giving information, I don't find what you're saying to be any less disgusting. Human beings are human beings, regardless of whether they participate in an ultimately trivial social exercise like wearing uniforms. It's like it's okay to torture and kill people if they don't view war as a team sport. That's pretty fucked up. What's the point of taking a position like that anyway? Do war lawmakers honestly expect torture and execution to deter extremist partisans from going without a uniform? Not bloody likely.

If French resistance fighters had been tortured and executed by the Third Reich under the flimsy argument of "They weren't wearing uniforms," I would've been appalled and I would've supported condemnation of those actions. I hold the U.S. and any other country to the same standard of ethics, regardless of the moving target of what is and what isn't "legal."

Wow, jury nullification makes you angry. I can't understand why. The written law is imperfect, and jury nullification strikes me as one method of addressing those imperfections. What was "fair" about the runaway slave laws, or the prohibition era laws? Why should the juries in those eras have been "fair" to the legal system if the legal system itself was unfair? And is jury nullification actually illegal as you claim, in the same way that perjury is clearly illegal?

There are many historical examples of unfair laws, and it makes zero sense to me to ask a jury to be "fair" to a legal system when the laws themselves have the potential to be obscenely unfair.

If the seat has a nonzero mass and enough velocity, it will flip the car. p = mv, KE = 1/2mv2. Notice that these simple expressions for momentum and kinetic energy both include a term for velocity (v). With enough velocity, the mass hardly even matters. For example, if a tank were to fire a normal tank round at the speed of light, the tank would probably be sent into orbit because the amount of energy and momentum would be so huge, even though the tank round doesn't have a huge mass relative to the tank.

Um...tanks do get displaced when they fire artillery rounds. It's merely negligible. If the tank were on a frictionless surface, it would slide backward continuously after firing the round. Both mass and velocity are important. That's why the expressions for kinetic energy and momentum include both mass and velocity. In theory, a ball bearing could stop a freight train if it hit it with enough velocity.

I never called Bush a war criminal. It's strange when people think of politics as a team sport, saying or implying things like "All liberals do this...." Well I don't do that, and I'm a liberal, so I don't know what you're talking about.

I am a "liberal," I guess. I don't support killing people with terror drones. Is that enough to make me criticize the Obama administration? Yes. Is that enough to make me change my vote from Obama to somebody else? Probably not. I don't know if you honestly expect someone describing themselves as liberal to support everything the Obama administration does.

Malcolm Gladwell was a character from the 80s sitcom "The Dog Saw Outliers." He would pop into a scene randomly, crazy hair and all, and spout some random fact or story, then he'd disappear just as quickly. Whatever character was in the scene would sort of bemusedly say "Thanks Malcolm Gladwell." Lots of laughter. Big applause. So "Thanks Malcolm Gladwell" is sort of a retro "Cool story, bro."

I would never tell my son how disappointed I am that he chose to become gay. I held back when he came out of the closet last year. I told him it was insensitive but he just blew me. A few months ago he started going out with guys. Now I'm proud.

I agree. I think keeping the games probably isn't right, but it's of so little consequence and there's not much the OP can do, so it hardly matters. Either way, I don't think it should be celebrated.

Maybe, maybe not. Again, I'm not a lawyer. But GameStop wouldn't know to point it out to the original owner unless some good citizen like the OP would be willing to point out the mistake.

I've ignored that point because I'm not a lawyer and don't know enough about the relevant property and used merchandise laws, but it's clearly more likely GameStop's property than it is the OP's property. The answer is probably more complicated than "Finders keepers" in any case.

I'm honestly a little confused here. That girl was religious and she stole from some "poor guitarist everyman," so reddit had her pegged as the scum of the Earth. Yet we seem to be cheering this guy on for essentially stealing from GameStop because he's not ostentatiously religious and GameStop is "a big evil corporation." The hivemind is bordering on self-parody. It's like these two posts went through two diametrically opposed Hivemind Checklists: One for bringing out the torches and one for slapping high-fives.

I thought I made a pretty good point. I guess that's why you point out that I derailed the thread instead of answering my challenge. I thought my long post was just sort of an amusing convoluted joke in the whimsical spirit that you seem to have enjoyed. Then you gave a serious reply, invoking "parallel universes" and I leveled what I think is a pretty reasonable challenge at you. I don't see any reason to believe my point wasn't a very direct and appropriate reply to what you said, but apparently it made you angry, so I apologize. But why didn't you point out that I derailed the thread in your first reply if that bothered you so much? Why did you give a serious reply to my long post if this thread is "a whimsical what if situation" and not "a serious discussion of time travel"?
