B-sides for The King of Limbs? by webby_mc_webbersonin radiohead

[–]SamHealer 0 points1 point ago

Yes, but not in lossless format, meaning a drop in quality while burning it to CD, which is what OP wanted to do.

There's no official physical release, but all 4 b-sides are available in lossless format from the band, so you could always download those and burn them - it'd be the same quality you'd be getting anyway.

Edit: sorry, forgot - Supercollider and The Butcher were only made available to download if you bought the album from the official site before April. If you didn't, well, I'm sure the files are out there somewhere.

It says it right on the front page: "Write Code. No Installs!

I guess they noticed the comment and added it.

The other minor positive thing about this is that they're planning on relaxing the policies a bit once everyone's had the whole "speed doubling" thing rolled out. Frankly, with the state it's in now, I'll take anything I can get.

It's not exactly random: http://www.virginmedia.com/images/STM_30Mb_above_800pxA.jpg

Edit: just to clarify, I'm on Virgin Media too, and hate this traffic shaping policy. I finally looked it up a couple of weeks ago, and since then, I've just been doing my heavy downloading outside those times. I dread to think what my bandwidth consumption must be between 3pm and 4pm.

At the very least, you'll at least know what times to avoid, what speed you'll be throttled to, and how long it'll last.

The incoming Atoms for Peace album/tour...possibly sooner than we expected? by ParanoidAndroidsin radioheadtalk

[–]SamHealer 2 points3 points ago

Seeing how The Eraser dropped during their break in the 2006 tour, we might not even have to wait until the end of this tour. The combination of seemingly related artwork being unveiled on Saturday and an Atoms For Peace related DJ set the night before certainly does suggest some kind of gearing up of attention for the inevitable album.

Is it a bit optimistic to hope for it in the next week or so? Probably. But the signs are looking good for it being relatively soon.

As for touring, though, I think that's less likely. 2013, I can imagine, but they seem to be pretty packed in this year in terms of Radiohead touring, add in their few weeks off, and they're basically done for the year.

I just realized that there are a lot of pipes in the Super Mario games because Mario and Luigi are plumbers. What very obvious things have you recently realized? by kirbeein AskReddit

[–]SamHealer -2 points-1 points ago

Not really. There's a difference between having an actual project name which is seriously used in production to refer to the show, and a fake name you shove on labels to disguise what's being shipped to the broadcast centre.

[–]SamHealer 4 points5 points ago

Not quite. It was used as a fake name to try and hide the fact they were filming Doctor Who, so the rushes would use that name. Much like Return Of The Jedi was hidden using the name Blue Harvest.

Would you still shop at Amazon after this email? by astrotofuin AskReddit

[–]SamHealer -1 points0 points ago

how is returning an item suspicious if I may ask. I'm not keeping the item. I'm sending the item back. If anything it causes me inconvenience to have to ship it back to them.

At what point do they issue the refund? If it's before they actually receive the returned item, then there's your problem.

The question here really is why does returning defective items trigger flags? Both returns were acknowledged by Amazon has not my fault and return shipping was paid for by them.

But it's not just returning defective items. Aside from the fact that, from their point of view, they only have your word that the items are defective, it's three high price items they've refunded in quick succession. Hell, if I were building an automated system to detect fraudulent transactions, I'd sure as hell be looking for patterns like that.

I'm not taking this personally but I am bothered that a company would single out consumers who have had issues and basically say fuck off.

See, when all you take from that email is thinking that Amazon have told you to fuck off, that's taking it personally. It's an email which is effectively saying "we think your account is suspicious, so we're placing limits on it. Here's an email address for you to contact to get this sorted out". How is that treating you like a problem child?

Would you still shop at Amazon after this email? by astrotofuin AskReddit

[–]SamHealer 3 points4 points ago

Sorry, but yes. From Amazon's point of view, you've ordered 3 high price items in a short space of time, all three of which you've claimed were defective and wanted refunds accordingly. You understand how suspicious that must look to them, right?

The very few occasions where I've needed to return/get a refund on an item, I've found the service to be fantastic and quick. It's really no surprise that people take advantage of that, and it's equally no surprise that Amazon would do their best to automate protection against that. You've got caught up as a false positive, which is bound to happen to someone. Is it unfortunate? Yes. But you seem to be taking it rather personally, and it really isn't.

Oh yeah, absolutely. I love that people are doing this, it's fantastic. And like you say, there are definitely those out there where some real attention has been put into making everything about the bootleg work, in track selection and ordering.

It genuinely never ceases to amaze me how many bootlegs there are out there for this band, especially when most of them are all using the same songs/performances. Not to mention the effort someone must have gone to to actually produce a physical version of it.

TIL 2 members of Radiohead appeared in a fictional band in the fourth Harry Potter movie. by Evilnurnin radiohead

[–]SamHealer 16 points17 points ago

One of my favourite Radiohead interview quotes ever:

Though you appeared briefly in the last Harry Potter movie, didn’t you, Phil?

PHIL: Yeah, I got to go to Hogworts (beams widely with childlike glee). I probably passed it off as something I did for my kids, but really it was for me. It was great fun.

COLIN: Yeah, didn’t you feature on the outtakes of the extras bit of the DVD or something?

PHIL: Oh go on, Greenwood, go on! Ruin it for me, why don’t you?

COLIN: No, seriously, I can’t remember. Are you actually in the film or are you just fleetingly in the DVD extras bit?

PHIL: So what have you done in the last few years, Greenwood? Eh?

[A brief slagging match ensues, at the end of which Colin turns to HotPress and says, “Now imagine this kind of dialogue over musical tastes. It can get pretty fucking ugly. U2 look out!”]

Does anybody here know if there is a singles box or something like that with radiohead? by bluepearsaucein radiohead

[–]SamHealer 2 points3 points ago

There isn't a singles box to speak of. If you're looking for the b-sides, your best bet in terms of legitimacy and ease is to find the 2-disc 2009 EMI re-releases of each album. The second disc is a compilation of all the b-sides from that album's singles, plus some extra live performances.

If you're more into owning the individual releases (like Com Lag, Airbag/HAID, etc), best bet would probably be scouring the local record stores.
