How to enable a disabled or hidden downvote button / arrow by Pi31415926in knightsofnew

Thanks. Do you know if Alien Blue provides a feature to turn off a subreddit's CSS? If so, that should also work, yes.

Maintain, provide, analysis, and generate more complex karma stats if karma is to actually mean anything. by jason-samfieldin ideasfortheadmins

More stats sounds good, but would be compute-intensive. If they were updated weekly or monthly, that would help reduce the extra load on the servers that this feature would likely cause.

Trying to figure out the Reddit code... Is there some sort of docs/diagrams I can look at? Where do I start? by swiftjrin redditdev

There's some docs here - author says as his site is a Reddit clone, the docs apply to Reddit. Linking to the comments page as it has extra details/context. Actual docs here.

Please make links undownvotable for the first 20-ish minutes after they are submitted. by soupyhandsin ideasfortheadmins

[–]Pi31415926 1 point2 points ago

Early downvotes are needed to deal with spam, etc. Sure, there are some people who abuse this - the solution is to encourage members of the affected subreddits to visit the new queues of those subreddits. Their votes will offset the rogue votes, and thereby fix the problem.

what's the url that takes you directly to the self-posting/text section of the submission page by jaredcheedain csshelp

[–]Pi31415926 2 points3 points ago

Bit of a hack, but it seems to work:

http://www.reddit.com/r/modhelp/submit?text=%08

As long as some text is specified, the self-post tab is shown. The above specifies the backspace character, this is so no text appears in the box.

Hiya, sorry to interject here - but I think you're referring to /r/24hoursupport, while OP is referring to /r/24hrsupport (note spelling).

Option 1 is the 'remove ham' button, option 2 is the 'remove spam' button. Therefore, auto-notifying the admins every time someone uses option 2 will mean the admins are notified every time a spam is removed. This is clearly not a good idea.

If you were thinking of a third level of removal, that would be different - it would also mean a lot of extra coding. The two levels of removal are already available, in the form of the ham/spam buttons.

Pitfalls of demoting Win2K server DC while it's running Exchange 2K3 Std? by bry_chanin sysadmin

[–]Pi31415926 0 points1 point ago

Sorry about that - hopefully you're paid by the hour! :)

Maybe someone else here will be able to suggest a shortcut. I haven't attempted it. Your migration strategy sounds like it might work, I can't confirm that though.

After you install Exchange Server 2003 on a server, do not change the role of the server. For example, if you install Exchange Server 2003 on a member server, do not use the Dcpromo tool to promote the server to a domain controller. Or, if you install Exchange Server 2003 on a domain controller, do not use the Dcpromo tool to demote the server to a member server. Changing the role of a server after you install Exchange Server 2003 may result in loss of some Exchange functionality and is not supported.

This approach does seem to fix the malicious post problem, yes. Although I think there might be other considerations too (see Aradon's and phyzome's comments in this thread). The thread in modnews is also worth a read.

Let me make my mod logs completely public! by syncreticin ideasfortheadmins

[–]Pi31415926 2 points3 points ago*

It might be an edge case right now, but that's because it's currently pointless: the post gets removed, and that's that. But if the feature was implemented as you describe, once it became known it was possible to post malicious content, permanently and anonymously, in public, it might not remain an edge case.

This, in turn, would present scalability issues for a solution which required administrator intervention. Those issues would result in delays to other improvements to Reddit, as well as delays in getting information removed.

Note that personal information is not the only kind of malicious post. It's likely the other kinds would also see an uptick in popularity, if it was known they would get airtime. That uptick will result in more work for moderators, in addition to requiring administrator intervention, on an ongoing basis.

In the case of a post with personal information in the title, what will be the remedy?

Personal information can also be contained in the URL itself, rather than the title. And as noted by vvise, the destination page can contain the personal information.

Hiding removed comments, and the text of removed self-posts, will not prevent someone wishing to post a malicious message from exploiting the moderation log to post it.

Have you found a solution to the problem of removed personal information, etc? On the previous occasions we have discussed this, no solution was forthcoming. Here and here.

[reddit change] Moderator toolbox tweaks by spladugin changelog

[–]Pi31415926 4 points5 points ago*

This isn't the prettiest, but it seems to work. It moves the box to the bottom of the sidebar:

modtoolsbox = $('div.side').find('h1:contains("MODERATION TOOLS")').parent().parent().parent();
$(modtoolsbox).parent().append(modtoolsbox);

It should be run as a userscript. Probably won't work in IE. Not sure if it can be done with pure CSS.

Me again... I've accidentally managed to move the moderation tools box to the top of the sidebar, before all the sub information. How do I fix that? by Impswitchin csshelp

[–]Pi31415926 5 points6 points ago

This is not something you did - it's a change made today by the admins, for all subreddits. :) Details here.
