My Father died suddenly a few years ago 2 days before xmas. We had guests from out of town staying over and plans that day. My wife explained to them what happened and then they went to stay with family. She gave me an Xmas gift early and stayed with me and just understood. I did what any grief stricken relative in shock would do. I went to work. I worked in a 24x7 data center. Everyone at work was shocked to see me and I told them I came there to escape reality. My wife just smiled and said go babe. She knows it is pointless to argue with grief. All I can say is be there. Be there for the tears and the happiness and you will be doing your job as a boyfriend well. Mostly it is just listening. My wife is the best at being my comfort zone. We have over 14 years to practice. If you are in for the long haul then I would say this is your first test. Listen and understand.
