Cop killer caught by his victim's partners. by iDontSeedMyTorrentsin JusticePorn

Why did my comment randomly get attention 10 days after the fact?

In response to your comment, you misunderstand what I say. There needs to always be a time and a place for the justice system. No excuses, no exceptions. If there are certain cases that should or shouldn't go through the system, and instead be taken care of by vigilantism as you suggest, then where do you draw the line?

It has taken hundreds of years of government and state law to get to where we are now. Law/justice is in place for a reason. You think you know more than the combined knowledge of hundreds of thousands of law makers who worked over the entire history of our country to collectively bring it to where we are now? They are the collective conscious of our nation, spanning generations, all working in favor of a democratic system. I think you're outnumbered.

Be more like Bill Cosby.

I think it depends on how you view the mouse. If you imagine it sitting on top of your head, pulling back the mouse will force you to look upward. Moving it forwards cranes your head downwards.

For most other people, it makes more sense to imagine it as mapped directly to the screen (the same way that a mousepad works, which I'm sure you've used). Move the mouse forward, and the screen scrolls up, much like the direction your cursor moves when you're not playing a game.

One makes a lot more sense than the other, IMO.

Arse sounds so nonsexual and strange to me. I assume it's because I'm an American, but it never fails to make me laugh.

I can't even imagine talking dirty to a girl and slipping arse in there without completely killing the mood.

As a word of advice, be vigilant about how much personal information you give out on the web.

I wasn't focusing on Catholicism, but that doesn't necessarily make your point any less valid. On the other hand, since you seemed to focus on how I worded what I said, I'll chalk that up to semantics.

Of course violence and religion are not mutually dependent, and to suggest that would be in error. I agree that Catholocism fulfilled a 'power hierarchy', and that hierarchy would have existed no matter what institution took its place. However, that doesn't absolve it from the harshest of criticism, nor does it prevent us from speculating on any better form of power that should have replaced it.

You really think that if the middle ages had been populated with proclaimed atheists then the era would have been any less violent, chaotic, or anti-intellectual?

Nope, I don't believe I ever said that.

One could argue that organized religion has been the single greatest cause of human on human violence and scientific opression since the dawn of man.

To say it brings good in any form is beyond insane. The net loss it has brought humanity is staggering.

TIL that the Earth is in its final 10% of its lifespan. Oceans will disappear in about 1 billion years due to increased temperatures from a brightening Sun. Even before that, CO2 will be too low to support plants, thus ending all life. by mepperin todayilearned

[–]InsideVoices 2 points3 points ago

It's 100% silliness to think about where, or even what we'll be in 1 billion years.

Space habitation? Try beaming clones of our consciousness into other solar systems. Hell, maybe to other galaxies. 1 billion years is enough time to think of life as being very very different than what you and I know it as today.

We'll either die off much before then, or have progressed so far that the death of our planet means fuck all.
