The ironic thing is, distance running is one of the few sports where women compete almost on an even playing field with men. I think the difference between the women's and men's world record in the marathon is only about 10 minutes. And for longer distances, the gap narrows (as a percentage of total time).

This is all good info, but I have a nitpick:

That's not the same thing. The three-fifths compromise is superseded by a later amendment (14, sec 2), so it is effectively repealed. That's not the same thing as a law that is still unrepealed, but that is unenforceable due to a court ruling.

I do think it is worthwhile to fight to have these types of laws removed "from the books".

You're probably fine. Don't be afraid to take a day off if your body wants you to though - listen to your body. Not the muscles though, they're wussies. It's the joints and bones that you have to pay attention to.

Lots of people run every day. I run 5 days a week. It's up to you and your comfort level.
