I understand the value of hands only CPR minus CPR at all, but the partial pressure of oxygen in the bloodstream begins to decrease immediately when no breaths are initiated, ie leading to arrest. The absense of oxygen exchange and ventilation is the primary cause for arrest in the pediatric population. The decrease in tHe blood oxygenation levels happens very quickly during arrest in adults and children regardless if the heart is contracting by mechanical forces if no new o2 is introduced into thelungs d/t normal conversion of o2 to co2. Your o2 can drop drastically in minutes, increasing co2 levels, leading to brain damage, multi organ dysfunction, etc. I understand and want minimally trained individuals to practice hands only trained so, but the value of the ventilation provided that allows for oxyenation and exchange of co2 in the blood stream has benefits that far surpass hands only.
