We'd like to have civil discussion on this subreddit. Therefore:
- Do not insult and/or employ passive aggression towards other Redditors in this subreddit.
- Do not post nonsensical comments that add no value to the discussion.
- If you downvote a submission, please explain why you are downvoting it.
- Do not downvote submissions/comments for no reason. Violaters of this policy will be permabanned when (if) in the future subreddit moderators will be able to see who is down/upvoting content.
Prohibited content
The following types of content should not be submitted to this subreddit:
- Videos of "cute" children listening to Metal or re-enacting parts of it
- Non-meaningful links to images or small blog posts. (Also referred to as "blog spam.")
- Content that is only slightly humorous, e.g. Metalocalypse. (Contrast this with genuinely humorous content such as an article about a Holocaust survivor who had much of Slayer's Angel of Death enacted on him or doctors being interested in Ozzy for his body's resistance to the effects of drug abuse.)
Prohibited music
The following aren't considered truly Metal and content about them should also not be submitted:
- Everything in the mainstream that is not considered Heavy Metal, an exception for bands that were influential to Heavy Metal is made.
- Mediocre bands with novelty value (e.g. Dethklok).
- Hipster metal; refer to /r/HipsterMetal if you do not know what this is.
- Progressive rock masquerading as Progressive ("Death") Metal (e.g. Opeth).
- "Technical Modern Death Metal".
- Mainstream bands; if they appear much on TV it's very probable that they're shit (Metal has long been--and still is--considered non-safe).
- The different "-core" genres (e.g. metalcore and deathcore), except for grindcore.
- "Djent"
- The following genres with "Metal" in their name:
- Nu Metal
- Funk Metal
- Drone Metal
- Glam Metal
- Post Metal
- Rap Metal
- Alternative Metal
- Avant-garde Metal
