Charter
These are my ideas so far on the guiding principles for the subreddit: I intend to use r/Objectivism as a vehicle of cultural change. To this end, r/Objectivism shall:
- foster civil discussion and learning
- promote camaraderie among allies
- instill communication skills for engaging the "uninitiated"
- coordinate productive activism efforts
Given these ideas, at the moment, I intend to enforce a very loose moderation policy. Intellectually dishonest trolls are not a threat of any real potency. Personally, I will upvote comments that display original writing and genuine understanding of philosophy that communicate effectively. Linking or quoting of other intellectuals is probably not the most effective means of communication most of the time: everyone on the internet is able to use a search engine to find whatever is being linked to. If they wanted to read what you are linking to, they would have done so on their own. Practice putting things in your own words even if they aren't as pretty. I think a chatroom might be a good idea for promoting fraternité, but I'm not sure if an IRC channel would suffice. In my experience Objectivist IRC channels decay and stagnate.
Discussion on intellectual honesty
Policy of open discussion
I believe there is value in having a forum in which ideas are in competition. The target participants are people influenced by Objectivism, but one should not interpret posts or comments in this subreddit as being part of or compatible with Ayn Rand's philosophy.
Sidebar Linking Policy
Subreddits linked in the sidebar are not necessarily related to the philosophy of Ayn Rand. They are provided as resources of possible interest to individualists influenced by Objectivism.
